I had planned to knit for hours but then there was a fire in the next little town from us. They evacuated the whole town because there was apparently some kind of dynamite plant right near the fire. I kept going out to see if I could hear anything. Vince said he doubted we would hear anything but I wasn’t so sure. People on Facebook kept saying there were huge firewalls around the explosive area of the plant and sure enough, apparently the fire went right through the property, burned an outbuilding or two but didn’t burn the manufacturing area. They sent in a drone first to check for damage, then sent in human inspectors and everything was fine. Amazing and sounds like very good planning on their part.
I could see smoke from different areas at our house but the fire is a safe distance from us . . I hope.
Last I heard it was 0% contained and had burned about 500 acres. That was last night so hopefully by now, there’s at least some containment.
Most people were able to go back home last night once there was no longer any danger of the fire affecting the dynamite plant.
This is my yard. This is why we’re so nervous about fires right now. Everything is totally bone dry.
So, you’re probably wondering how the fire interfered with my knitting . . I was too busy reading reports on Facebook from people near the fire. I am so easily distracted!

I’m glad you are safe. My yard looks the same. I am saving on lawn care expense but I take no joy in that.

Fire is so scary. Glad everyone is safe. We’ve had 2″ of rain here at the house in 10 months. Makes it tough to garden and ranch.
Rebecca in SoCal says
Do those terrible winds you get die down in summer? It doesn’t look like that smoke is going anywhere.
Glad they built the plant so well!
Nelle Coursey says
It was actually going the other direction from us but I could smell the smoke this morning. And Zephyr is 10 or 11 miles Southeast of us. I pray that no one is injured or killed in this rampage of a fire. The wind was about 13 mph last night. I do not believe the story they put out about the electricity sparking and causing it! I don’t think anyone else will either. Hope they have real good insurance because they will have to pay for all those firetrucks coming to fight the fires! And anyone who lost property in the fire can sue them as well. That is why they are telling this story they are putting out!

Yes, but we’re pretty far south of brownwood.. No, I have quite a hard time with that story too.
Susan says
That situation would have made me too distracted to work on anything, too.
