Why is it that Mondays are still crazy busy even though Vince is retired and Mondays are just like any other day? We are finding our routines, learning to stay out of each other’s way but dang, I miss my alone time. I miss the time to turn up my music and play in the kitchen. Every time I walk out the door, which is probably 100 times a day, he says “Where are you going?” He knows I’m not leaving the place or I’d tell him and ask him to go. I’m either going to the fridge in the shop, or to check on the freeze dryer or to take snacks to the chickens or to grab something from the garden or to dump something in the compost bin or to move a water house. That’s pretty much the only things I do and I’m usually back within 5 minutes. It isn’t a big deal . . I just miss the quiet.
The first thing I did was slice mushrooms to freeze dry. I put these in double layers (you’re only seeing one layer in the photo above) and I had enough for almost three trays. I won’t put these in til tomorrow afternoon so I’ll get more mushrooms while I’m out tomorrow.
Next up was to get salmon ready for the smoker. Vince will smoke it tomorrow. I’ve already washed the salt off, will let it dry out a bit, then put brown sugar over it.
The last thing I did was shred and pound cabbage for sauerkraut. This should be ready after August 6. Ahh . . August . . closer to summer being over!

Is Vince watching the Amazon Prime sale today? Or is he more of a hands on shopper?
Do you use one of those multi purpose slicers? It seems that you need one since you are doing so much slicing for the dryer.

DH and I try to say when we’re going somewhere (like upstairs, to the basement, or out to water …) and then we don’t end up wondering where each other went or where the other is going. Kind of pro-active, I guess?

Being in a larger house than we were for 40+ years , we also announce our changing of location or major activity! While a bit weird it does ease things here. And neither is leaving the place w/o the other’s knowledge. Getting older adjustments can be funny! It does get easier, dear Judy! Well, parts of it do!!

I’m sure it does get easier. It’s much easier than it was 6 weeks ago.

My dad does this to my Mom all day…ask her where she’s going. He keeps joking to board up the hallway so he can keep a better eye on her.

I will be glad when the heat is over! Supposed to be around 108 this weekend!!

You have some wonderful good things to eat there. I look forward to seeing what you think of the mushrooms. I don’t eat them anyway, but I’m betting they will not be as good as the onions. =)

I always get asked where I’m going when I get up, and it drives me crazy. Where does he think I’m going? I’m never even sure if he’s joking and just trying to aggravate me or not.
