This is why I keep everything! When we painted the sewing room, the painters were going to leave us paint samples and then, they didn’t even come back and finish the job so I never got my paint samples. Live and learn . . if I ever need painters again, I’ll get my samples and make sure the room is finished before they get paid.
Now we need to do touch up painting and I couldn’t find anything that had the paint color. For some crazy reason, I remembered that the color is called “Newborn”. I googled “old paint colors Newborn yellow” and came up with a Glidden match. Home Depot sells Glidden and the paint came from Home Depot. I was able to print off the color code/formula but then I remembered that I have this book of paint samples.
I cannot remember where I got it or how I ended up with it. I honestly thing it was something that was left in the hall closet by the people we bought the house from in Missouri. I can remember twice that I threw it in the trash. I had asked Vince “Do we need to keep this?” and he said no so I threw it out and then went back and retrieved it.
There’s the page I need . . right there!
We couldn’t remember if we had flat or matte or eggshell (or whatever the other choices were) so we had little samples made up for a couple. I remember talking with the painters about it . . which finish should we use, but, of course, I don’t remember what we decided.
Some time today I’m going to rub a little paint on the wall where the ladders scuffed up the paint when they were changing the a/c and hope one of our samples looks ok.
After having thrown out that paint sample book and going back and getting it and then needing it, I’ll never be able to throw anything away again!

Yep I understand. Every time I throw away something no matter what it is or how much I think I’ll never need it again.(It always cost more when you buy the second or 3rd time ,4th time for sure. should have kept) Guess what? The next day just kidding I need that. So I’m called a horder now by my family. But just let them need something and where do they come? The famous question around her is “DO you Have?” I say why do you ask? I do and you know it but I’m the horder. Sometimes a girl just has to do what she needs to do. KEEP STUFF!!!!!

I write the paint color and finish on the wall near a switch and cover it up with the plate. That way I can always find the information quickly.

When I don’t know (or can’t locate) the details if a paint color, I remove a switch plate cover (or plug cover) and get a paint sample from behind there….once one replaces the cover, the spot is completely invisible!

I don’t have a book of paint samples, but I have the samples of the paint colors I used in each room, labeled, and together in a baggie. It’s stored on a shelf in my office closet. I chose the colors from a fabric in my stash that was designed by the late Diana Leone.

At least not something useful like a paint sample book! That’s so funny that you remember the name of the color. I still remember we painted my bedroom purple rain, which was a gray with an undertone of the barest lavender, very pretty and very light and airy. I hope your paint matches!

That is the one thing with our remodel we now have the samples and names of every color and in which room along with the finish. And it has come in handy a few times!

I can not remember a time I have thrown something away(after much agonizing over it) that I have not needed it soon after. I love Laura’s idea to put info behind switch plate.

That is a great idea. Yep, I finally convince myself to throw something out, then for days I wish I hadn’t done it and then at some point, I find that I need it.
