When I made the strawberry ice cream for so many years, I always used Big Red soda. The other day I didn’t see Big Red in the store and bought the Fanta strawberry soda.
Since my ice cream maker makes 1-1/2 quarts, into a container with a lid I measure out half the Eagle Brand milk (about 200 grams as I recall), spoon out half the strawberries, and pour in what looks to be about half the bottle of soda. I mix it all up with a spoon and stick it in the freezer (not the ice cream freezer but the big deep freeze) for a couple of hours, then pour it into the ice cream maker.
But, yesterday I saw the Big Red at the store and bought that and made ice cream. We both liked the Fanta way better. I told Vince . . too bad I bought three bottles of Big Red”. Vince said “Pour it out and buy the Fanta”. Do you know what that means? For Vince to say pour something out? Vince is the one who will eat cookies that expired 12 years ago!
So . . try whichever brand you prefer. I had always loved it with Big Red, til I tasted it with Fanta.

I have a son who won’t throw leftovers away…he will eat things days after they should have been disposed of. He must have an iron stomach because he doesn’t get food poisoning. Drives me crazy because I’m a stickler for expiration dates (even though we now know it’s somewhat of a scam depending on the product). Big step for Vince!

I bet it would be good with Faygo Red Pop (a Michigan product) too. I like it better than Fanta.

Wow, Vince! There must be something else to do with it – what about using it in jello instead of plain water?
