The Signature knitting needles have become my favorites . . except for one size! The 3.25 mm needles seem to have such a short . . hmm . . I don’t know what you call it! The thing that you screw the cable onto. It isn’t a bolt. I don’t know but I think at least the knitters will understand what I’m saying.
I’ve been knitting a long time and I’ve only had a needle and cable separate maybe twice. Now, I’ve had it happen twice with the 3.25 mm Signature. I complained and they sent me a little rubber gizmo for tightening it and I’ve been using it but late last night, it fell off again.
You can see that I’m in an area where I don’t need stitches falling off. I was lucky that I was able to get them back on but I don’t trust this needle. I don’t know why the screw thing is so short on the 3.25 mm. I guess Signature has a reason for it but it’s not working out for me.
The other time it happened, was just a couple of months ago, again in the middle of a big lace project and I had to rip back to my life line which was probably 20 rows back.
The problem is that after using the Signature needles, it’s kinda hard to go back to using some of my other needles. I guess I have to weigh my options . . losing stitches or a heavier, less pointed needle. Since Signature needles and cables are specific per size needle (so not really interchangeable) except that if I had a shorter or longer 3.25 mm cable, I could change it, I’m halfway tempted to get Vince to glue the needle to the cable. But, he’d probably want to know why I didn’t use a different needle and I’d tell him because I love this one best and he’d ask how much it cost and that conversation would go downhill rapidly.

Lock tight…or LockTite. husband uses it to keep nuts or bolts or what ever from unscrewing. bet Vince has some in his tool box.

There is part of that cable that has to turn so I’ll have to do a little investigating. Don’t want to ruin them completely. Thanks for the name of the stuff.

I would follow up with Signature again and let them know they are defective.
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t think they’re defective – it’s just the way that size is made. Apparently all the other knitters are fine with them. I’ve let them know that I am having recurring problems with them and the sent me the little tightening gizmo.

Since you love them and since you tried their “fix”, I would ask them to replace it. Just IMHO.
Judy Laquidara says
I think that size it’s going to be the same with all of them because of the length of the section that screws in. If all the other knitters are happy with them, it’s probably just me.

I don’t do a lot of knitting, but I know I don’t like the bamboo needles. The yarn just doesn’t slide on the bamboo for me and I get very frustrated very quickly! If it was mine, I think I’d let them know what it’s doing and how much trouble it’s causing me. And if you just spent all that money on the freeze-dryer, how could Vince be upset over the relatively miniscule amount you spent on knitting needles?? 🙂
Judy Laquidara says
I had already talked to them about it and they think I’m not tightening them enough. It is what it is. Oh, I don’t think these needles were a “miniscule” amount but it’s overall the amount of knitting needles I have here that would probably aggravate him.

Chia Goo lace have nice points and fixed cables. Might be worth a try.
Nelle Coursey says
I like my Chia Goo’s also. They seem to tighten easier than the others I have. Maybe there is part of the screw that has been stripped or is not done correctly. Like when you are putting a screw back in and it gets cross threaded? I wonder if you could get something that would go on/in it to keep it from turning so easily? Even though the others have had no problems we all know there is that One that is defective. Not everyone can be perfect all the time. It really does look short to me.

That’s why I don’t like interchangeables. There is something about the way I knit that causes them to come apart like that. I bought a set of Addi Clicks (lace tips), and I like them a lot. The way they go together they can’t come apart unless you break the cable. I haven’t found any brand of interchangeables that doesn’t eventually come apart on me other than the Addi’s. Of course the Addi’s aren’t cheap! 🙁
