Yesterday I was texting with a friend and we were planning a get together and she was telling me all we were going to do and I texted this back to her.
Her response:
Seriously, we aren’t planning anything criminal. If we should get in trouble (no way!), this makes it all look kinda premeditated! I do have good friends here. Maybe because I always knew we were leaving Kentucky and Missouri and I really didn’t make friends there. I had one great friend in Kentucky but no real friends in MO. I have as many friends here as I had in Louisiana and I lived there forever. Heck . . it takes a really good friend to go to jail with you but she’s actually the instigator in this fiasco.
But, there are real criminals out there. I was at knitting today and got a call from my bank. “Did you or someone with your authorization attempt to make a purchase for $2,872 and $3,277 in North Carolina?” Nope! Not me.
My credit card stays at home and only gets used for purchases at a couple of yarn shops . . I never leave home with it and it really only gets used a few times a month at trusted locations.
It’s so aggravating. They cancelled my card, will send me another one. I guess I understand to some degree people wanting something for nothing but I cannot understand taking something that doesn’t belong to you or trying to steal from others.
I guess all we can do is keep a watchful eye on our “stuff”, teach our kids and grandkids to be good, honest and hard working . . if you want something, work your butt off til you can get it.

So sad. I check for “readers” each time I swipe/insert my card(s). If it wriggles I call attention to it. I take no chances.

I do too but this card is for my online shopping and I’ve never swiped it anywhere and only use it at a couple of online places.

Smart. Cant never be too careful.

I had my card compromised a couple of months ago. I looked on line on Monday and there were two large transactions on my account the day before. Phoned the bank and they switched me over to the fraud department. They took care of it and it didn’t cost me any thing but still like you they cancelled my card and sent me a new one. Scary out there these day.

We have it happen from time to time. On our family card, we have recurring charges (electric bill, internet, cell phones, etc.) so it’s a pain to cancel that one. For my little “play money” card, it’s not a big deal but it’s just not nice for people to do that.

What a bummer……your last paragraph says it all….

People never cease to amaze me. We had our card compromised at a restaurant in Washington DC when visiting our daughter several years ago. A day after we got home I got a call from our credit card company asking if I’d purchased $3,000 worth of stuff from a Best Buy in the DC area. “No!!” Yep – card cancelled. I just hope they got the guy who did it. He took our card to pay for our meal. It was out of my sight for just a few minutes. I will never understand people who would do something like this. They can’t possibly have a conscience.

Had a call from obe of ours several weeks ago. There was s smsll xharge that didn’t sound right to then. So they called to check. Card cancelled, new arrived 2 days later. It us aggravating to say the least. Especially changing the things that come out automatically

The last time one of my cards was hacked, they ordered sporting goods equipment … which was all delivered to my house! I was home and had UPS take it back, but really, that was dumb! I’d already had the card replaced.

The chip is suppose to keep this from happening. But you have to watch everything these days. I had someone take A COPY OF ONE OF MY CHECKS . Yes and then went to office depot the bank said and made more checks but used their names on them with my banking numbers . They then went to Walmart and Walgreens and did some serious damage. One thousand dollars at Walmart and almost 400 at Walgreens. The reason they could was those two places don’t keep the checks. They scan and give back. They were caught on camera at both places. I had the same checks numbers they made in my check book unused. The police would do nothing to help find them. I had to cancel that checking account I had had for 30+ years and start over. Was a huge mess. Now I check each Monday to see what had gone through our account. Low in behold this past Monday I had a debit card transaction of 73 dollars go through that was suppose to be 38. So it still is happening. So ladies watch your bank accounts closely. The crooks are till out there. They find a way they are smart.

My dear husband left his card in the chip reader at our tiny hardware store in a very small town in Arizona. He and the owner of the store walked back into the store to get something else and while they were gone someone took Mike’s credit card. I received a text message immediately (my card is set up to text me when ANYTHING is purchased on the card) that someone had charged $9 to an online music store. I immediately knew something was up as my husband wouldn’t even know HOW to purchase something from an online music store! 🙂 Canceled the card, got a new one the next day.

I worked for probation for years. These type people have no conscience and they do not care about anything. I am thankful our bank has a great fraud dept. Some fraud comes from medical facilities. They always want a copy of your DL and SS card. I always say no. I might give them the ending #s. There is no reason for them to have it as my insurance does not use my SS
# for ID (if yours does you should complain) Thank goodness medicare numbers are changing. The only reason they ever needed DL# is for hot checks as the DA’s office requires that ID was verified when the check was taken.

Yes the criminals are out there in mass! So sorry this happened to you. It happened tome on my ATM card and it was from the one at the bank itself! I only use that card for cash and I get it at the bank. Fortunately they refused to pay the amount. I think it was something in China for $9999.99! LOL I once worked at a bank and a bank examiner told me you are in here working 8 hours a day but there are people out there 24 hours a day trying to figure out how to get to you and get money for free. Now it is not just here in the US but internationally! Most of these people are from another country and trying to get whatever they can by deceit. So sorry this happened to you.
