I love these Digital Velocity irons. I’ve had several and the last time I had one go out, a very nice blog reader had a couple that she didn’t like and sent them to me. This is the one I like the best and during the air conditioner repair the other day, Vince said “I knocked your iron over but I don’t think it hurt it.”
I think maybe it did hurt it. It’s been leaking badly ever since. I’m hard enough on irons without any help from Boots, Vince or the a/c repairman. This has been a good one and I really hate that it has met its demise due to no fault on the part of the iron.
Since I have several, I thought about asking Vince to see if he could combine the working parts and come up with an iron that works but I know what will happen . . three more irons to store and probably never get fixed so the most prudent thing for me to do is quietly put this one in the bottom of the trash can. I’ll have to think about that. I really love this iron.

Are they better than Rowenta irons? I have a love/hate relationship with my Rowenta!

I gave up on expensive irons about 5-6 years ago. My favorite iron now is a very inexpensive one I purchased at Walmart several years ago. I think I paid about $15 for it. It is a Rival made for Walmart. It is a steam iron but I never put water in it. The model is ES280. What I like about this iron is that it does NOT have an automatic shut off. It is smaller than the Reliable Velocity (I had 2 of those) and is not as heavy, but it does everything I need it to do. I bought 2 of them when I made the purchase and I am now on my 2nd one. I guess it is time to go back and see if I can find another one (or 2 or 3). I have found that this iron isn’t always available but in August and the beginning of fall you can usually find them because it is a great size to send with the kids going to school dorms.

How sad! I know I love certain irons and have a hard time when they start leaking. My best bet is the Black and Decker Digitals. The current one has lasted 2.5 years so far, longer than any iron, except the last B & D Digital. I really liked the T-Fal irons, but one only lasted a year and the other less than that. I like that they are heavy, so I don’t have to work so hard. =) I’d still like to get one with no auto shut off though!

Everyone is particular about their irons! After using many different brands over the years I am quite happy using a 1970’s harvest gold Sunbeam that belonged to my grandmother. It’s great…it’s heavy, no auto shutoff, and it gets hot enough that you could cook on it if you needed to. It probably adds $$$ to my power bill every month but I love it.

I buy older irons from the secondhand shops, it sometimes takes awhile to find one in good condition but so worth it. I don’t know about the US but here in Canada I can’t find a new one that doesn’t have the auto shut off. I also don’t put water in them, we have well water with some iron in it plus I think the irons last longer if you don’t put water in it. I just use a spray bottle if I need steam. I have considered buying one of those professional irons with the separate water tank.

I should start using the spray bottle. I buy water to put in the iron because we’re also on a well with a lot of lime in the water. I do have a professional iron with the water tank . . some kind of steam generator. I should try using that again.

I have a basic Black & Decker that I’ve had for several years now, and another before that. It’s hit the floor several times & still works fine. I think I paid about $20 for the first one and this one was close to $30. I’m sure it’s more than that by now.
