My arm is so much better today. I don’t know that you can imagine what a horrible patient I am. There was NOTHING I could do yesterday. Couldn’t work in the garden, couldn’t cook, couldn’t knit, couldn’t sew. I must’ve gone through the 40 pages of books on my Kindle a dozen times and nothing interested me. I kept saying to VInce “There’s NOTHING I can do! I cannot just sit here and look out the window.” At one point, I got this look like . . You had better find something to do or at least be quiet about it!” I did end up sleeping much of the day so I figured I wouldn’t sleep last night but I think the pain meds helped me sleep.
I always sleep on my right side but since it’s my right arm that was hurting, I hadn’t been able to sleep on my right arm. I woke up this morning on my right side so that made me happy that I had been able to sleep on that side and hadn’t even noticed any pain. I can lift my arm a bit higher than I have been able to but still not high enough to comb my hair with my right hand and my left hand does a horrible job.
I was telling Vince yesterday . . Can you imagine how much the right hand must dislike the left hand. The left hand really does nothing and the right hand does all the work. I’m going to work to get better with using my left hand. Trying to comb my hair with my left hand, the comb ended up in the toilet once and halfway down the hall once and my hair still looks like it hasn’t been combed in days. Oh . . right . . it hasn’t been combed in days. Thankfully my left hand was able to wash my hair but I just let it dry by itself. Be glad you don’t have to see that!
Vince keeps saying “Don’t overdo it because you feel better”. I think what he means is . . cook . . but don’t do anything else! I did fix breakfast, have lunch ready to start and put up all the food that was in the freeze dryer.
I’m trying to decide if I want to run another load. On average, a full load is taking about 50 hours. I don’t think the a/c guy will be here before Wednesday but I don’t want to have a load going while he’s here because he’ll be turning the power off in that room at least once and I don’t want to screw up the cycle. Since he’s putting in a bigger unit, he has to run new wires. Thank goodness he’s an electrician too.
I’m still not knitting. I know what happened that was the cause of my arm injury but I’m not sure that all the knitting I’ve been doing hasn’t made things a bit worse. I figure I won’t try knitting again til Monday and then I’ll knit for just a while and not spend hours and and hours knitting .. and see what happens.
The doctor said I have to have an MRI next week if it isn’t better. It’s better! The hospital here only has the closed type machine and unless they give me something, I don’t think I can do that. There’s an open one in Abilene and I have a hard tie with that one too but I think I could do it better than the one here. Hopefully, I won’t have to have an MRI. I haven’t done very good on my attempt to not have to use my bad insurance, have I?

Try to take it easy and just loaf around! You don’t want to make it worse and you don’t want to have to pay for a MRI. It needs to heal. 🙂

What I have learned with injuries like tendinitis is that it is so much easier to get re-injured from repetitive strain or injury. The older we get, the longer it takes to heal. Gradually you learn to have a new mindset about being aware of and avoiding things that can cause that kind of pain again. I am so glad you are feeling better and thank goodness for cortisone shots to get the healing started.

Judy, I can identify with your arm issues. I remember doing something…can’t remember what like you do…and saying to myself, “I shouldn’t have done that.” Nothing hurt until I was pushing one of my twin grand daughters on the swing. Since then, have had three doctor appointments and two tests, including an ultra sound, where everything was “normal.” Well, it is not. Think it is slowly getting better, but not fast enough for me. I also sleep on my right side and it is my right arm that is the problem. At least it is not getting worse. Hope that yours continues to improve.

I just realized that they’re going to work on your AC on Independence Day! I hope you’re not paying holiday rates for that.

My neck and shoulder have been hurting for 2 months or more. I finally went to the doctor on Thursday and she gave me a muscle relaxer. It helps, but it makes me so sleepy, I can’t get anything done during the day but nap. I guess that is OK, if it is healing the darn shoulder. It is just hell growing old! Glad to hear you are on the mend. Don’t over do it! Let it heal!

You’re always so busy. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to not be able to do anything. Once the doctor told my husband to take it easy and I laughed out loud. He doesn’t know how to do that. And honestly, you use your arm for everything! Here’s hoping your arm is well on the way to healing completely and here’s hoping it does it fast!

I read somewhere years ago that the body only heals when we sleep. I can tell when I’ve had bad sleep or shorted my sleep because my knee will be horrible the next day. As soon as I get a good nights sleep for 8 hours, my knee only bothers me a little bit the next day. I’ve had tendonitis twice in my life and it definitely does take a long time to heal as well as regular stretching. My shoulder only took a year or two but my leg took more than 5 years–probably because I walked for exercise. When I stopped walking and started biking, it started to get better and I don’t even notice it now. Hope you’re feeling better soon so you can get back to doing the things you love.

When I do any enclosed scans, I sing church hymns to myself the entire time. It works. Those things sure aren’t my favorite but I do them often enough now that I’m getting over it.

When I had my MRI done here they gave me earphones and I listened to KOXE radio. I closed my eyes and pretended I was trying to go to sleep. I heard nothing, felt nothing and keeping my eyes shut helped also. I really closed them tight!!! But I did get through it that way. I bet if you tell t hem you want the earphones, they will let you have them. I didn’t even have to ask for the earphones, they just asked me what I wanted to listen to. Check it out

I know how hard it is to do nothing when you are injured. I had rotator cuff surgery on my right should a year and a half ago. After 6 weeks in a sling, my left hand got pretty good at doing things…some things I still do with my left hand. I was so bored with not being able to knit/weave/spin. As long as I was on the pain meds, I couldn’t concentrate to read either. Ugh! I also hate the closed in MRI machines. They piped in music when I had it done, and I got to pick the station. If I ever have to do another one, I’m picking an oldies station so I can mentally sing along. I also kept my eyes shut tight so I wouldn’t have to think about the fact I was in a tiny closed in place. Shudder….
