The funniest thing, and most rewarding thing, for a mom to see is for your kids to be doing some of the same things you did, especially when those things drove said kid nuts when they lived at your house.
When I used to have a garden and I’d ask Chad to help, he’d always say “Why do your HOBBIES always require work from me?”
Now, he has his little garden planted and was telling me that he has watermelons that are growing nicely
Even before being a “prepper” was popular, I’ve always insisted that we have an alternate way of cooking and an alternate way of keeping warm. Chad’s idea was “Go to McDonald’s” but Chad didn’t remember that when there was an ice storm in Louisiana and power was out for 7 days, there were no restaurants open. And Chad doesn’t remember that when we got 21 inches of snow in Kentucky, when only about 8 inches was expected, and delivery trucks couldn’t get to the stores and electricity was off for several days, we had food and we had an alternate way to cook the food and we had a way to keep the house warm enough to be comfortable.
Chad called me last night and was telling me about these little backpack stoves.
It makes me so happy to see him at least thinking about some of the things that matter to me, especially when I was sure he would never have any interest in these things.
Proof that kids do grow up eventually. I love that young man so much!

Absolutely! Kids really do watch you as they’re growing, and as much as they think it’s dumb it eventually comes full circle….LOL! It’s always fun when it happens. ?

We had an ice storm here in East Texas 2- 3 years ago & power was out for 3 days. We were able to get to our daughter’s house where they had a fireplace & kerosene heater. After that we promptly bought a kerosene heater and a generator so we wouldn’t be stranded in the event of another storm. We have a small pond that we can get water for flushing!
