Bad blogger here . . no photos. I’m in serious pain. This is so crazy that I didn’t really do anything that should have resulted in this much pain. I guess this is what happens when you get old! 🙁 Even though I don’t have a big variety of freeze dried meals, the past couple of days I’ve totally seen the value of having lots of different meals we can heat and eat.
I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes ready to rehydrate. I put them in different bowls, poured a bit of boiling water over them. Stirred the potatoes a bit, flipped the meatloaf over once in the water. It was perfect. It was exactly like fresh. The scalloped potatoes were so much better than the sample of scalloped potatoes but I suspected my own version would be better.
Vince said he thought the flavors were more enhanced once the food was freeze dried and rehydrated.
The blueberries, blueberry yogurt, buttermilk and squash is going to be done about 1 a.m. but with the luck I’ve had this week, I am not going out there at 1 in the morning. I’d probably get eaten by a coyote. So, that will all be ready tomorrow morning. I’m not sure I’ll start another load. First . . the arm! Second, they could show up as early as Wednesday to start work on the a/c and there will have to be some re-wiring done since the new unit is bigger. I don’t want the power going off during the middle of a cycle. Chances are, if I start something Saturday morning, it will be finished by Wednesday morning.
Obviously, I’m debating with myself about running another load now. We’ll see . .

Judy, when they are finished freeze drying do you keep them in the freezer or on the shelf?

Ah yes……this getting old is NOT for sissies! The meatloaf/potatoes re-hydration sounds wonderful/yummy. That’s one of my fave meals! Am totally enjoying these posts!!!

Yep, getting old has its drawbacks. And, sometimes the brain forgets that the body is getting old! If there’s something you are going to have to loosen later you should probably be the one to tighten it to begin with. No sense risking another round of that arm pain. Sounds like the freeze drying is a success.

The next time Vince goes to Harbor Freight or a hardware store, have him look for a wrench with rubber straps on it. He may already have one. Anyway, I bought a set for Pat one year at Christmas and we have used them for everything. The best thing is getting jar lids off or cola bottle caps off. Pat doesn’t have much of a grip since his problems last year so I have been opening everything. These work great! I think I got them at Sears. We have had them so long I can’t remember. But like I said there is no strain to getting the lids off. There is a grooved part on the plastic of the wrench that holds the rubber band tight. The rubber band is about 1/4 to 1/2 inches wide and about 6-8 inches long. They are good for using them to loosen or tighten pipes as well. Vince will have one more unique tool!! Mine came as a set of 2.
Glad the arm is better!

This is still from trying to untighten that thing Vince had tightened? That’s an amazing amount of pain. You must have really strained something badly! I hope all goes well with the A/C installation and you have only the shortest of interruptions in your freeze drying. Good to know that the meal worked out well, too!

Yes. And yes . . it was an amazing amount of pain. It hurt all the down through my elbow and into my wrist but it’s much better today.
