Finally, an a/c guy came out from Comanche. Thank you, Mr. A/C Guy for coming to our rescue. I’m still aggravated with the guy we’ve been using who wouldn’t even call us back. Home Depot sells mini-splits and online, they say they have installers. Vince called them and they said they on’t offer that service in our town because installers won’t show up when they’re supposed to show up and they had such a hard time getting things installed here that they had to quit offering the installation. Abilene . . yep, they’ll install. San Angelo . . yep, they’ll install. What is wrong that people will not show up when they say they will. Also . . not even calling you back when they say they will. At least call and say . . sorry, I don’t want your business! I know that the installers and repairmen don’t really care what people think of this town but for people who move here from other place, where there are dependable people who will show up when they say they will, it makes it real hard to want to stay here.
Rant over . . til I need a repairman again!
The a/c needed coolant. It needed a sensor. I don’t even know what all it needed. They’re still out there. The a/c guy turned on turbo and cranked it down to 61 and oh, my goodness . . it feels like heaven in there! I told Vince . . that’s my problem . . I function much better in a 61 degree room. The guy said “It’s going to use more electricity with turbo on”. Vince said . . we need to use more electricity on sunny days and if it keeps her quiet . . 61 and turbo works for me!
One of the problems is that it wasn’t pulling out the humidity and as soon as he got several things fixed, water started pouring out of that drain line.
I know this guy doesn’t need business in Brownwood. He has all he can handle in Comanche but he’s a friend of a friend so he came out. I hope he’ll come back when we need him again. I think Vince was telling him to go ahead and plan on replacing the sewing room unit during the winter.
The guy is also an electrician and he was telling us about some new and better lights than what we currently have and he’s going to come back and change out all the lights in the sewing room. Yay!
Linda in NE says
The Vince quote just cracked me up. 61 degrees?? I’d be in sweatpants and sweatshirt with another layer on top of that!
Erin says
I am glad it’s repaired. Pretty soon you will see snowflakes in there need the hat mittens and scarf you have knitted! 61! Brrr..
Verna A. says
I’m with you–61 sounds great! I don’t like the heat–I sure wouldn’t last long in Texas.
Mary M says
Wait, Vince told the repair guy to plan to replace it this winter? Isn’t the house going in the market this fall? Y’all confuse me so much with your moving/not moving. Good thing I’m not part of the family! 🙂
Rebecca in SoCal says
I’m confused, too. Isn’t it the sewing room AC you’re trying to fix? Wouldn’t waiting until the winter make you suffer through the summer? And what about selling??
Judy Laquidara says
We thought it was fixed after he left today . . at least enough to limp through til cooler weather. The a/c guy is so busy and he really doesn’t work in this area so we were trying to make it easier for him. Even if we were selling, which we probably are not, we’d fix or replace the a/c before we put the house up for sale.
Judy Laquidara says
That’s ok. We confuse ourselves. We have fun . . doesn’t bother us a bit.

We have the same problem with repair people and contractors where we live, a Peninsula off the Washington coast. It’s not that there aren’t companies advertising I guess maybe they just have too much work and so go for the larger jobs. I don’t know! It is frustrating! Even the Home Depot guy, they are sub contractors to Home Depot, came out to quote some fencing for me and he was unreliable. Moved the date three times. Showed up. Seemed uninterested (The job being done ended up being right at $5000 so it’s not like I was looking at a job only valued at a couple of hundred) I suggested he look at a friends fence to get a feel for what I was looking for and he was rude to them and told them “you know, that fence is not in code” AND then he never bothered to call me back with ANY quote.
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t get it for sure.
Carolyn says
Where I live we hope nothing needs service. Living in the middle of nowhere is not my idea of having fun. I’m still waiting on my ship to come in so I can sail far far away and never look back.
Judy Laquidara says
I understand!!
Susan says
Oh my gosh, what a treasure he is! Give him food as a bonus! You must have something he would love to take home. LOL

You should try to get a repair done at the beach. We had a condo in Florida. I swear they all head to the beach when someone yells “surf’s up.” We had damage from a hurricane and thought we’d never get the condo put back together.
Nelle Coursey says
So glad you are finally getting cool air! I am also glad you are going to get lights that will help you see how to sew better. I hope this a/c guy will finally fix it for you! All the others are interested in is selling you a new one! Little did they know they lost out on a sale!!

It seems every area has the same problem…I’m living in the mountains in CA….and now after I make an appointment I ask the person if they are going to show up…..they laugh and then they promise they will show up so far it has worked…..LOL…there will be a day it won’t, but it has worked so far…..
