Little moths and mosquitoes can be a huge problem here. I detest mosquitoes but moths scare me with all the yarn around here. We never close our blinds so at night, with the inside lights on, there are moths all over our windows and the glass in the door so when we go outside with Rita . . open the door and moths come flying in. You may remember one night I was up in a chair barefooted, swatted at a moth on the fan light and the little gizmo on the chain hit the globe, shattered the bulb and the moth got away but I was still in the chair barefooted and there was glass everywhere. Oh . . and I was naked because I was just fixing to get in the shower. Don’t ask me why I went back into the dining room . . I don’t remember but I was yelling for Vince to come help and there I was in the chair in my birthday suit.
So . . moths are a problem . . in more ways than one might expect. My friend got a Dynatrap for catching moths and mosquitoes and she was telling me about. She bought hers at Costco when she was out of town and, of course, we don’t have Costco or Sam’s Club, both of which have them. I asked her to get me one next time she was in Costco and she did. We’ve had it up for a month or so and I am so impressed. When we would go out with Rita, we’d turn out all the inside lights and the outside lights on a few minutes before we went out, hoping the moths would leave our windows and go towards the porch lights so as not to fly in as soon as the door opened. It probably helped but we were chasing moths every night.
From my view looking out the window, there it is hanging on the porch.
Every week, we get probably a cup of dead moths out of it. You can read about it at the Dynatrap website. It isn’t a zapper and it doesn’t have scary chemicals.
Since getting it, we may have had one or two months in the house but I really don’t remember having any. I’d like to get one for the other door but there are no electric plugs around that door. They have at least one model that works off batteries. What I would like to find is one that has a little solar panel and a solar powered battery all built into it.
I love this little Dynatrap. No affiliation. Nothing in it for me if you buy a dozen. Just sharing info about an amazing little gadget.

Hi Judy,
So happy to see you quilting again. Design Wall Mondays were always a favorite of mine even though I don’t have a blog to share.
Since you got the Dynatrap, have you noticed how it works with the mosquitoes? They are our main problem in the summer and we have had lots of rain this spring so we should be having a bumper crop of mosquitoes.

I read the reviews and people said they were effective against mosquitoes. We only get mosquitoes after a rain and it hadn’t rained in forever til last night so I can’t really say for sure about mosquitoes.

Wow! This rug hooker and all her wool thanks you for thIs information. I keep lavender in with my wool and yarn, but sure would like to add that gadget to my arsenal. Moths are not welcome here either.
Judy Laquidara says
I didn’t believe it would be as effective as it is. They have indoor models too.

I just looked at Amazon and they range from $36 to over $100. Would you mind sharing model # that you like? Thank you.

That one on Amazon has a 1-3 month shipping backlog ! And a lot are out of stock on their website. So, I ordered a different one that should arrive on Wednesday. .
We have plenty of mosquitoes and they will jump again since we got lots of rain the last few days. One thing that is interesting is that after 6 weeks using the trap, the mosquito problem should be significantly down since the breeding cycle has been impacted. Sure hope so. We also have an issue with mud daubers and beetles so it will be fun to see how many bugs I catch.

I need one to carry on my body!

I wonder how they work for flies. Here in south Louisiana we get plenty of rain thus lots of mosquitos but the flies are awful too. Our dog is in and out and so the house has plenty of pests as well.
Judy Laquidara says
We have mosquitoes and flies but not like y’all do. One thing I’ve noticed is that, with our blinds open at night, the bugs would hit our windows trying to fly to the inside lights and leave spots. That hasn’t happened since we put up the Dynatrap so it is affecting more than just the moths.

The Dynatrap sounds like a winner, but right now we simply have geckos. We thought they might compete with the anoles / (chameleons), but they don’t. They DO keep down the moths and bugs we don’t want inside, but they also like to get in the door cracks and get squashed. A Dynatrap sounds like a much better idea!
