It’s funny that I think I haven’t done anything today but I’ve done a lot . . just nothing to write home (or blog) about, but having nothing to write about has never stopped me before, right?
For breakfast, we both couldn’t wait to have cereal and our new freeze dried fruit. We didn’t have a lot of bananas left so we finished those off. I told my friend that we had eaten all the bananas and Vince said “No, YOU ate all the bananas!” They are so doo. I can’t wait to do more bananas. Mostly I had just filled in space with them for that first load. I’m going to do a whole load of bananas.
Then my friend came over to see the freeze dryer in action and we loaded the second batch which was 1-1/2 tray of marshmallows; 1-1/2 tray of jello and one tray of cheesecake pieces.
Then Vince and I went to town . . I knew I should have gone by myself. I needed to go help a friend who was stuck with her knitting. Vince said he would go because he needed to pick up an Rx. Then he said “Want to eat Chinese?” Ugh! No. But who am I to say no to what he wants to do. We went and it was as I expected it to be. Then we went to Aldi.
Came home and went to bed to take a nap. When I got up, I said to Vince “Can we please make an agreement that I never have to go eat at that place again? I don’t mind if you go without me any time you want to go!” He agreed. We’ll see how that works out.
6:00 p.m. and it’s 104°. Whatever I do if probably going to involve sitting in the house. I’m betting the sewing room is way warmer than I’d like. I believe it’s time for us to have that conversation that I am NOT waiting to Fall for a new a/c in there.
Aldi has canned tomatoes, stewed or diced, along with tomato sauce, for 45¢ a can (14.5 oz) and tomato sauce or 25¢ per can. I want to make chili and Pioneer Woman’s Tomato Soup so I needed to buy several cans of tomatoes, a bottle of tomato juice and a few other things.
I understand, somewhat, why some people don’t like shopping at Aldi. I love it. I really had a lot of stuff in the cart – maybe 10 cans of tomatoes, a few cans of tomato sauce, a big bottle of tomato juice, a 6 pack of Hershey bars (for the chili – not all 6 bars – don’t worry – I don’t like chocolate bars), canned pineapple chunks, several different types of crackers, cheese, and a few other things. When Vince checked out, I was standing off to the side and when we were outside, I said “Was that all $29 something?” Yep.
I expected it to be more. Even though we didn’t have meat or fresh fruit, it seemed like we got a lot for that price!

Wow! You sure did better than I did on a shopping run today! Of course, I was indulging…big shrimp, good cheese, a nice fruit spread, a couple bottles of wine…and it added up!

Chinese is my favorite restaurant too and guess what? My husband HATES it. Our daughter goes with me sometimes. I have to go eat all this Mexican food and I can find something sometimes but without him I’d NEVER be there. We all suffer….ha.

My only complaint with Aldi’s is as soon as I find something I really like, they don’t have it any more. :(. I like their Teriyaki salmon patties (frozen), but they don’t have them all the time, so now when I see them, I buy several boxes. I found a frozen dinner I really liked about a month ago, but I didn’t try them for a few days after I bought them. As soon as I realized they were really yummy and went back for more, they didn’t have them. If I see them again, I’m buying several!

I think that’s part of their marketing plan and, for me, the fun of shopping there. They get stuff in, you get it while it’s there and then they get new stuff in where the other stores always have the same things on the shelf over and over. Like you, I get frustrated when we can’t get stuff again. I always want to try new stuff before I buy several but by the time we try it, it’s gone.

I love shopping at Aldi. Once a month I go to Food City and get the things I can’t get at Aldi, but I have a list that rotates by week and I stay within my budget with no difficulty. And my budget is pretty small! You wouldn’t believe how small. But we do okay with Aldi.

Chocolate for your chili? I’ve never heard of that!
