One of the few “retirement rules” is that I am not fixing three meals a day. This morning I fixed breakfast and lunch. About mid-afternoon . .
Vince: What’s for dinner?
Me: I’m not cooking. I’ve fixed two meals already.
Vince: You did cook breakfast (bacon, eggs, biscuits, fruit!). But lunch? We had sandwiches!
Me: I heated the ham. I toasted the bread! I washed the dishes!
Nope, not good enough.
I stood in front of the freezer, with the door open, halfway trying to cool off and halfway trying to find something quick to fix for dinner. Frozen scallops! They’ll thaw quickly and they’ll cook quickly.
I figured it was time to eat everything that had been in the fridge for a few days. We had corn on the cob and steamed artichokes.
I still think I fixed three meals today . . even if Vince thinks it was only two!

Do you get a “buy” so as to only fix one then tomorrow????? Only fair…….poor Vince…..lol.

Don’t you know we don’t cut Vince any slack! 🙂
Cilla Tyler says
I thought not!!!! LOL!!!

Yeah. I tried that on Louis. I’m not a big breakfast eater so we decided if he wants breakfast he can fix it or get a bowl of cereal. We have a light sandwich for lunch (I’m calling it preparing a meal, cooked or not) then I make supper. He was on the road for 30 Year’s, so there’s a lot for him to absorb. Did you know? In hotels the bed and the bath are magically clean and made if you leave and come back. This whole thing is a process for both of us.

Where did your menu plan go? Maybe Vince needs to take over one meal and do the shopping (list) and cooking for it….
Another time, COLD sandwiches, and put the dishes in the dishwasher.
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t do menus for Friday, Saturday or Sunday because we usually miss one scheduled meal during the week and that’s what we have on Friday and then we have leftovers or whatever we can find on the weekend. This week, we ate what was on the menu all week and leftovers got frozen to go in the freeze dryer so we didn’t have anything planned.

He doesn’t think sandwiches count but he’d probably squawk if you had one and didn’t fix one for him!

Retirement gives you a big “kid” in the house….with interesting “issues” to resolve!

So next time you are going to fix sandwiches or a less-involved cooking, tell him it’s one of the two for the day, so he understands how it works. =) Paul and I always scrounged our own breakfasts and lunches, and he fixed dinner. So … maybe you should only cook once a day. LOL

I am with you. I think I could get by with only 2 meals a day but Pat thinks we need 3. That may be one of the reasons I am so big! Besides the medicine they gave me a few years ago that made me balloon up and not be able to lose the weight.
Judy Laquidara says
I would be perfectly happy to have a big breakfast, a fairly light meal about 2:30 or 3:00 and then fruit in the evening — especially something cold this time of year.

Anytime you sit down at the table and eat and drink, it’s a meal!!!
