As I was going through my cookbook box, I came across this book.
Obviously it isn’t a cookbook. Vince said it’s a surveyor’s field book.
Interesting but total Greek to me.
I asked Vince “Do you know how to use this stuff?” He said “I did! I used that when I worked for the State of Georgia in the 70’s.”
I have a whole new level of respect for his intelligence and the work he’s done so we’re able to retire and enjoy life. I don’t think I’m even capable of learning this kind of stuff. It’s probably his level of smartness that impedes him being able to have a conversation with someone on my level. 🙁

Yep he is one smart man . You need to keep him around and happy. My hubby did that to back in the 60’s for Moran Gas company .

Aren’t those tables of formulas and shapes amazing?!?!?! They fascinate me, but I never understand them. I once had a red book that described how to use mathematical equations to figure out how much gas an airplane will use in flight. Didn’t get past the first few pages, but it was interesting! Don’t have it any more.

We all have different levels of competency in various things. I think I understand that one of Vince’s less competent areas might be cooking. Maybe he feels the same way about your cooking as you do his mechanical ability.

Looks like Greek to me too!! Wish he could have met our late friend John Arthur. He was just like Vince.

Could it be that he is smart enough to have you convinced that a sandwich isn’t a meal, for example? Hmmmm.

LOL, I think you under-rate yourself, Judy. There are all kinds of smart, and just because the surveyor’s math doesn’t make sense to you (and why would it with no training???) doesn’t mean Vince has to talk down to your level. It’s the same level, just a different department. LOL

I find it amusing that you said it looks like Greek to me because there are Greek symbols on the first page your posted. See, you do something about what’s in that book! 🙂
I have a degree in math and could understand the book but put something about quilting in front of me and I’m LOST! Everyone has their area of expertise and your’s is quilting. I look at your quilts and designs and I’m astounded by the beauty. If everyone wer experts on the same things, our society would collapse. We need our difference to keep our society going and growing.

As a retired math professor/teacher I can tell you that you are exactly correct. It is Greek! Believe it or not, years ago I had one of our school secretaries visit a geometry class to show her quilts as a “geometry in action” motivation for the kids. She was given rock star status from that day forward. The boys were just as impressed as the girls.
