One of the files I was so happy to find in my Dropbox was Christmas Town Sampler.
This is a project that was started in 2012. It was a collaboration started by Denise. Sheryl, Susan and I participated. You can read the introduction in this post.
Sheryl is from Louisiana and I can’t remember when she and I first met. She had an online quilting group probably in the 80’s and I was a member of that group. I think she and I met in person at the Houston Quilt Show in the late 80’s but I’m guessing. Denise and Susan were both Sheryl’s friends and I met them through her. We all went to a quilt retreat in Arkansas in maybe 2009. I can’t remember dates!
Then, when we moved to Texas in 2011, Susan and her husband lived less than an hour from us. We got together every now and then and met about halfway between us for dinner.
For many years, Susan battled cancer and in 2014, she lost the battle. This quilt project means a lot to me and I really want to finish it. I have some of the blocks made, none of the applique stitch down and I can’t remember how much of the house border I have done.
Ahh . . old blog posts are so special! I found one with the blocks on the design wall. All the main blocks are done. Lots of border blocks left to be done but I can do this!
Once I finish Addie’s quilt, I’m going to get back to this one and get it finished . . maybe in time for Christmas.

I remember following along when you all collaborated on the Christmas Sampler. I loved it, but as usual, I just collected the patterns and never did make it. I followed Susan’s blog and was saddened when her husband announced on her blog that she’d lost her battle with cancer. It was amazing how much she got done, quilting-wise, when she was so sick. I still miss reading her blog….

I miss her too. She was so friendly and helpful when we moved here. She and Ernie were always together. The closest Walmart for them is in our town and we’d run into them at Walmart every few months. We’ve seen Ernie in there a few times since she passed away and it always makes me sad to see him without her.

I remember this, too, but I don’t have any of the patterns now. I like the whole quilt, and I’d even like a quilt made from those border blocks. That could be a great neighborhood!

This is how I “met” you…and one of the (few) quilts I finished AND for me…use it every Christmas! Thank you it was great fun.

That’s one of the projects I set to the side when I was recently cleaning the sewing room because I want to get it finished soon – hopefully before Christmas this year (of course I said that last year too)

That’s a lovely pattern and an even more special story to go along with it. The house’s look like they are glowing with warmth. Enjoy the process of putting this together and remembering your friend.

Hi Judy, I always liked this sampler. Are any of the blocks still available?
