We come up with some crazy ideas around here. Yesterday I was talking to Chad and I suppose I’m grasping at ways to live closer to them. Chad and I were talking about . . what if . . we could find a place on Toledo Bend, a lake between part of Louisiana and Texas and it had rental cabins. Chad could maybe be a fishing guide and help with maintenance. Nicole and I could clean the cabins.
Then Chad said “Mom, you’ve always wanted to have a place where you could do quilting retreats. You could have a place where the wives could quilt or knit and the husbands could fish or do whatever they want to do.” We talked about it . . most of our ideas are just dreams that wouldn’t really work out in real life.
I was telling Vince. Then I read a comment about Vince quilting and I said “Vince! You could quilt too. Most of my blog readers would rather see you or Rita than see me!”
Vince said “You think? They would pay to come see me? I could just sit there and they could walk by and say hello and I wouldn’t have to do anything?”
No . . I don’t think that’s exactly what I was thinking. Sounds like that idea wasn’t a great one but I’m betting that before this week is over, Chad had found the perfect place and is trying to get us to buy it.

You know tho, Vince is right, he and Rita could just sit there and people would love to walk by and chat!

What about me? 🙂
Judee says
You would be the main attraction in the studio !

Perhaps you have not found the perfect place, because the plan for you isn’t set yet. It is thinking outside the box, like this, that might just put that perfect plan in place for you.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, and “outside the box” almost always works better for us.

Vince! Ha! I think that he would at least have to pass out advice. The wise old man sitting in his chair with a line of people waiting to hear his wisdom. That might work!
Judy Laquidara says
Not sure that would be good idea. Advice from an old Italian! It might be “R” rated! 🙂
Erin says
I like that idea men can fish hang with Vince if they go and wives can quilt!!! We r in!!! We will retire and hang with u! Every year count us in!
Judy Laquidara says
OK. Our first recurring annual reservation! 🙂

That is a great idea. You’ll need to really think about thst. Tell Vince this will be a great tax write off too. Love close to Chad and get place as a write off. Win win.

I’m in, my husband said he’d come as well. We would love to come in the winter to get away from the snow. I like Chad’s thinking.

You know we will both be there! My husband will participate in the dispensing wisdom, fishing, quilting and the cooking! What more could you ask for from an attendee? I will quilt and visit. You realize how much fun this idea could be! Obviously it could be profitable. And a LOT of work, but you’ve never seemed afraid of work!
Susan says
I don’t fish or have a fishing husband, but I do quilt, and I’d come for that and the location – as long as there are either no bitey-stingy bugs, or you provide plenty of OFF! LOL

Personally, I think it sounds like a great idea! My husband and I would love to join you for fishing and quilting, or knitting lessons.

We moved one house away from our eldest son’s family (the younger isn’t married and no children). The eldest is in the Air Force and said he will retire here and then called and said “Mom, Jason is building the last house in the neighborhood and three people are looking at it tomorrow.” I said, “Tell Jason we want it.” With tremendous help from both sons (youngest drove both cars south and eldest drove up to CO to move a trailer full of stuff down here and rented a storage unit. Everything just fell into place, we were able to do some modifications that we love (double insulation and no ridge to the walk-in shower, etc. because the builder was awesome. We love our house and love being able to spend time with them. We don’t see them every day but my husband has taught the 13 year old how to use the riding lawn mower to earn money mowing lawns and the 7-year old is a constant source of laughter. Even the 18-year old is checking on us and very sweet. It has been such a blessing. We’re there for them and they are there for us. My parents moved to Arizona when they retired which was fine until my Dad died and Mom was there alone. We didn’t want to repeat that mistake. It’s all about making memories with those grandkids! Hope it works out for you, too!
