Today I’ve done a bit more cleaning in the sewing room. I hate to call it cleaning because really it’s just shuffling clutter. There’s so much stuff in there and almost all of it stuff I plan to use some day . . maybe. Worse than having too much is throwing something away, then wishing you had it. As I come to things, I’m thinking about them like this: (1) What are the chances I’ll use this within the next 5 years? and (2) If I donate it or toss it, what would be the big deal if I had to buy it again? Things like rotary cutters .. yes, that would be a big deal to have to buy again. Things like 1/2 yard of some kind of fusible interfacing that I can’t remember why I bought it . . no, that’s not a big deal if I had to buy that again. Also, I hope I’m learning that if I need 1/2 yard of interfacing, I can buy 1/2 yard and not 2 bolts of it.
A flat surface! The cutting table is somewhat clean . . at least as clean as it’s been in quite a few years.
The spot where the freeze dryer will go is ready. Vince has the table made and tomorrow we will glue the cover to it, put the table top in place, screw the legs in and then all we have to do is wait for the freezer dryer to arrive.
There are so many tubs of yarn in the sewing room. I look at all of it and I think . . it would take me at least a year to knit all the yarn in just one tub. I’m definitely determined not to buy more yarn unless it’s something I need for a special project.
My chores for today are done. Besides cleaning in the sewing room, getting the brisket and dinner done, I picked and shelled beans this morning for our dinner, I watered the house foundation, watered a few fruit trees, took care of the chickens, took a nap and now I hope to sit and knit for the rest of the evening.

I had a friend ask me it I thought she could learn to knit?
Well this week I am going to start her knitting with some of my needles I no longer use, some yarn that is pretty and she will be able to knit a simple scarf or 2 with the yarn.
AND….I have a HUGE bag full of yarn that is nice yarn that I know I’ll never use since I much of it is left over from projects. She can pick and choose as she learns simple knitting projects without any investment.
I’ve freed up a little space in one of my yarn cabinets.
BUT, I just finished another afghan and I worked from 4 bins of yarn and they don’t look like I used a thing!

So … are you hoping your house will grow to accomodate more yarn? LOL No, really, why are you watering the house foundation?
Donna says
Looking good! I, too, would like to know about watering your house foundation. I’ve not heard of it before, so maybe I need to be doing something I’m not doing!
Vivian Oaks says
I have the same question…why are you watering your house foundation??

Here in Texas the ground shifts a lot when it dries out and even has cracks in it. I too water my house foundation to keep it from breaking the slab the house sits on.

I have a water system that is next to house and waters the foundztion. I don’t have to mess with it. We have black gumbo and it does out in two dzys. My old house didn’t do and it cost us over 9 thousand dollars to fix. So watering is necessary here in Texas for sure.

If you decide to start throwing out yarn, I will take one for the team and take it off your hands! LOL Have you ever done rag rugs? I would like to try that sometime.

After my sister-in-law passed away, we had to help clean out her house. What an eye opener that was. When we got home, we immediately started purging. Then we moved a year ago and I would venture to say I gave away at least half of my mountain of stash as well as a ton of quilting books. It was wonderful. My tastes have changed anyway and I’m hoping many charity quilts will be made by the group it was given to. If you look at your possessions as Chad and his wife have to go through all of this when we pass away, it’s a lot easier to get rid of stuff. It really made me happy to get rid of all that stuff and we brought just enough furniture to work in our new house since we downsized. Believe me, when you are in your mid-60s and have injuries from two car accidents, moving is an ordeal. If you do end up moving, we had really good luck using PODS…..way cheaper and you can pack your own boxes. Then we hired movers to unload the PODS one at a time. My advice would be that if you plan to move, you should do it before you get much older. Seriously.
