Thursday we drove down to Brady and bought a router. It’s pretty different from our old router though it still has two different speeds. Some things have to connect at the slower speed (2.4 I think) and others can connect at 5. You know this is way over my head.
So far, we’ve had ZERO buffering with the TV. That’s pretty amazing considering that we had pretty much given up watching TV and if I was trying to talk on the phone (wifi calling), Vince had to stop the TV.
I’m so happy that it’s all working much better and not sure why the old router was having so many problems.
One thing . . through my frustration, I had to laugh. We’ve gotten so dependent on wifi. I couldn’t change the a/c thermostat from my chair so I had to get up and go figure out how to reset the connection on the thermostat. When the new unit got installed 2.5 years ago, the installer set it all up and I wasn’t sure I could figure it out but I did it. Then, the weather station wouldn’t connect. I was trying everything and then Vince said “I’m betting it has to connect at 2.4 instead of 5.” Yep. That was it. I had no idea that the two new internet names on our setting meant that one was one speed and one was another. I can only set up the weather station internet from my phone and could not get the weather station to find the slower connection. Then I figured out that I had to connect my phone to the slower connection and then the weather station would connect through the app.
What would my grandparents think about me being frustrated because I couldn’t connect my thermostat and weather station to the internet. We’ve come a long way . . but sometimes I wonder if we’re going the wrong direction. Of course, no one made us have a wifi thermostat or a weather station.
Now that the internet is working better, maybe I can hook up the Alexa things again . . just to add to the frustration around here.

It really is amazing the difference a new router can make. My old, old, old one worked but I was having Internet issues too. Finally bought a new one & it really improved everything. Now that the Internet co. has upped our download speed to 20Mbps I can actually try streaming. 5Mbps just wasn’t cutting it, especially in the evenings when it might go down to just a little over 1Mbps at times. Of course progress always comes at a price.

My grandparents went from horse and buggy/covered wagons, to automobiles, to airplanes and then saw a man on the moon!! Just think what they would think if they didn’t even have to get up to change a tv channel!! I remember Granddad told us the story of when he was a boy and they went from Bronte Texas to Los Angeles California in a covered wagon. Took them 3 months to get there. They had to hobble the horses so they wouldn’t wander off. I can’t imagine doing that! And we think if we don’t get it instantly, then it is not going to happen!

It’s definitely a different world on the surface, but so many things are still the same, and that’s a comfort. =)

It might not be news to you, but supposedly the Russians sent out some malware this morning and everyone needs to hard reboot their routers to avoid having problems. Air Force son is the one who told us so might be worth doing!
