Oh, my goodness . . y’all please tell me this is normal.
We cannot keep up with what day of the week it is. We’re making a conscious effort to know and we’re still not doing very good.
Yesterday was Friday. Vince went to cardiac rehab and he goes Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but yet, I got up this morning and kept thinking I needed to get ready for church. Finally, I said to myself . . I’m not going today. Sure glad I made that decision . . since today isn’t Sunday!
At one point, Vince said “Today isn’t Sunday, is it?” I said “No, but it sure feels like it.” Later he came is and said “Darn! I fed the chickens. I forgot it wasn’t Sunday.” He fills their feeders on Wednesday and Sunday.
We were talking tonight . .
Me: We can get an electronic calendar that sits by the coffee pot and every day, it will tell us “Saturday, June 16.”
Vince: Why do we care?
Me: I don’t know.
Vince: All we need to know is when it’s the first of the month so we don’t go shopping when everyone else is out shopping.
Me: I guess you’re right.
Vince: Oh . . I need to know when it’s Thursday because that’s when my favorite shows are on TV.
Me: You can set a recurring alarm on your phone . . Your favorite shows come on today!
How did this happen in such a short time? We don’t know the day of the week and we don’t care what day it is.
It’s really funny. It’s weird. Almost every morning I tell myself . . Today is whatever day of the week and I almost immediately forget. Several times a day, the thought crosses my mind that I should make sure today is whatever day.
Are we normal? Are we both losing our minds?
All day I kept thinking I needed to make my menu plan for tomorrow but I still have another day . . because it’s still Saturday . . at least in Texas.

I think you are normal in the department of knowing the day of the week. I’ve been retired for over seven years and it is so hard to know what day it is. Thankfully I have a phone that says the date and day. Oh, and the time. Welcome to retirement.

I mentioned to my hubby today that it seemed like a Sunday.

I just click on the date in the corner of my computer screen. It brings up the calendar to tell me what day of the week it is. Then when the hubby asks what day it is, I KNOW!! 🙂
Karen Sutton says
You’re in good company. I usually have to check my phone or computer for the day. I check my calendar just to make sure I don’t have an appointment or something that day – otherwise who cares:)

I too have this problem. When I wake up each morning I sit on the side of the bed and think ‘what day is it?’ Never had this problem until my husband and I retired! Glad I’m in good company!

That seems pretty normal. I used to get so aggravated at hubby that he didn’t know what day it was. He retired 6 years ago and I was still working. I am now retired and most mornings, I’m ok and am pretty sure I know what day it is but some mornings, I check my phone multiple times trying to get it into my head what day it is. While it can be a little disorientating, it’s also pretty nice that I don’t really have to know what day it is.

Definitely NORMAL…..

It may be normal, but it also drives me crazy. If I am suppose to be some place on a certain day that is another challenge. Everyday is the same…cook, clean, and……

Uh-oh. This is the beginning of the end. You two are going downhill quickly. My advice: Buy a home as close as you can to Chad. The little one will help you two get your minds back!

Great advice. Thanks!
Jackie says
Anytime Vince asks what day it is, tell him it is the beginning of the month. That way he won’t want to go shopping! 🙂
Judy Laquidara says
Now why didn’t I think of that?
Wanda says
Try journaling each day about what happened the day before. Doesn’t matter if you or anyone else ever reads it latter. You can keep up with day\date that way . Works wonderfully and granddaughter might enjoy reading many many years from now. Because you write funny things here so journaling will be cool to her .
Jackie says
Happens all the time but I don’t worry about anymore. If I really now I just pick up my mobile and check it.

You are normal! I have to look on my phone or the computer to see what day it is! LOL We have no reason to care except on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have to set the alarm so Pat can get to his cardio rehab and I can go to knitting on Tuesdays! The other days it doesn’t make any difference. Some days I get up at 8:30 and some days it is 9:30, depends on how long the dogs let me sleep. Last night there was either 2 cats in love or mama was moving her babies and they thought they were being left behind. The neighbors were burning their fire pit (Why do you need a fire pit in June when it is almost 100?), and I was having a coughing fit due to the smoke from the fire pit. Anyway I didn’t sleep very well and neither did Pat. But it is all ok! We have no where to be today and no schedule!!
Diane in CA says
You can ask Alexa what day it is too..
Judy Laquidara says
We have all our Alexas turned off because of bandwidth problems. I miss her!

By now, you’ve figured out you are normal. LOL When I first retired, I never knew the day because I wasn’t writing it on the board every morning! Sometimes I look at the phone, but I actually have to make a list of what I need to do each day in order to keep up with my goals, so looking at that usually keeps me on track. I don’t care which day it is, only that I stay on track, or I’ll be doing nothing all the time!
Sandy Kahler says
I have been know to say late in the day is it still Monday etc . Since I am on the computer every morning I look where it says the day and date or I would never know what day it is.
Pat says
It’s a wonderful thing, isn’t it? My husband keeps all our appts on his smart phone (I have one that I rarely turn on) and every day is a Saturday (except church on Sunday!)…it’s such a blessing!
Andrea says
Since this also happens to me I will say that, for sure, you are normal. 😉 I often have to check so I don’t miss an appointment. I almost never know the date, either.
