There’s a fairly new Italian restaurant in Brady that we love. Brady is close to 50 miles from here and we don’t pass through there on the way to anywhere we go so if we go to Brady, we’re going to Brady for a reason. Yesterday when Vince was talking to the internet guy Vince was saying “I don’t know when we’ll get to Brady again but I”ll com by and get that router next time I’m in town.” I was sitting across the room saying “Tomorrow! Italian restaurant!” so Vince told the guy “Oh, we’ll come tomorrow! My wife wants to go to Joe’s.”
What’s really funny is that we have commitments on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. How can two old folks who never go anywhere have one free day per week and once a month, I have something to do on Thursday afternoon. We’re busier than we’ve ever been!
So, since today is Thursday and we had nowhere we had to be, we went to Joe’s in Brady for lunch.
I get the same thing every time I go. It’s chicken with broccoli, tomatoes and sauce. It’s so good. I should try something different. Next time!
The husband and wife team that own/run the restaurant makes fresh rolls every morning. They are so good. Perfect amount of yeastiness. They have a basil/garlic dipping oil that I could drink with a straw. Seriously, I’d be happy to have rolls and oil and forget the main dish. In fact, almost all of mine always comes home with us. There’s enough leftover for Vince and I to split it for another meal.
If I lived closer to Brady, I’d go by there and get rolls way too often!

My husband was just in Brady Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ll have to show him these pictures. He still hasn’t tried Joe’s.

Wonder if they get their olive oil in San Saba? They have some great olive oil there! We have a friend we took there when we had to photo shoot out last year. He saw one that said Habanero and he decided to try it. He dipped the little bread piece in the oil and put it in his mouth. He started turning red in the face and the woman knew instantly what he had done. She rushed to another olive oil, got some out and a piece of bread and told him to put it in his mouth. She then went to get water. She asked him to look at the bottle and it said HOT on all sides. She asked him if he didn’t see that. He said yes but he thought it meant just hot, not HOT HOT HOT. Next time he will know!! LOL they have some wonderful oils there!! They even have a chocolate you can put over deserts! Most of their oils are not for cooking but for dipping and as sauces over other food.

We often stop at the San Saba Olive Oil Company when we go to Wedding Oak Winery down the street. Always bring some home with us.

Sometimes when I can’t bear to pass up my “usual” I get it to go. That way I know I have it for the next day and I can try something else with the satisfaction of knowing I’ve got my favorite to fall back on the next day! I know – it costs more, but that’s the only way I can leave a restaurant happy that I tried something new even if it wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. And I can look forward to yummy leftovers!

Sounds delicious. At my Italian favorite place, it’s their baked ziti – or the baked spaghetti. They make their own sauce, and it isn’t like any other I’ve ever had, but since I’ve had it, it’s the only kind I want! They have a fabulous buffet every night with tons of salad, lots of pizza varieties, including dessert pizzas, and both the red sauce dishes and Alfredo sauce. When you come in, they ask what’s your favorite pizza, and if it isn’t already on the table, they make one. Now you’ve made me hungry for Italian food!
