I had ordered some of the Harvest Right samples to try and one item was ham & potatoes.
It didn’t have any instructions as far as I could see so I dumped it into a shallow bowl because I knew I needed to pour hot water over it.
I wasn’t sure how much hot water to pour so I poured enough that it looked like the potatoes and ham had absorbed the liquid.
They were good .. not great but good. To me, they tasted like when you buy a box that has dried potatoes and you make scalloped potatoes or something like that. I don’t remember ever having done that but I do remember having had those before. I’m thinking that if I made my own scalloped potatoes, freeze dried them, and rehydrated, it would be a whole lot different.
Don’t get me wrong . . these were better than a whole lot of scalloped potatoes I’ve had in restaurants, but just not as good as my homemade recipe I’ll make a point of trying it from my own recipe as soon as the FD gets here and then I’ll be curious to see how homemade scalloped potatoes taste after having been dried and rehydrated.
I asked Vince . . if we were sitting around to knowing what to fix for dinner, thinking about going out to eat and decided to rehydrate scalloped potatoes and ham, would you have been happy with this and he said “most definitely”!
Vickie Van Dyken says
Oh my???? Men….. well I guess …..no I don’t …hahahahhhaha no guesses on why he said that? Yes, we have no idea what runs through there minds. I am certain that I would prefer one you made to that one! It looks a little, well unappetizing….. Now go throw it at him! ROFOL….. why cook? We all know Vince is not a gourmet judge but. Once again….Oh my??? Are you sure you want to go to all the trouble of making it yourself??? Yet again, oh my!
