A week or so before we left home, I got in the car and there was a black widow spider crawling up the passenger side window. I thought . . I’ll put the window down and the spider will jump out so I started putting the window down and the spider started running down the glass. I couldn’t reach the window to swat it out but just as the window got almost down to where the spider was located, the spider jumped back into the car, halfway across the car and onto the console. I swatted at it, thought I got it but wasn’t sure. I searched for it and couldn’t find it. I told Vince and he said it would die in the hot car. I totally forgot about it.
A few days later, we left to go to Missouri. We drove about 9 hours and when we stopped at a rest area, I picked up my phone to text Nicole to tell her where we were. I was looking at the typing area and when I glanced at the screen, there was that black widow spider. I slapped at it and, of course, I screamed! Vince was already out of the car so I told him about it and told him I thought I had killed it.
He was getting into the car first and I saw him dancing around and doing all kinds of crazy moves. He got in the car, picked up Rita’s blanket and there was the spider, under Rita’s blanket. He said it’s gone. I don’t know.
At this point, I can say (1) He’s finally gone or (2) There’s a whole herd of them living in the car and it’s not the same spider we’ve been seeing. We have a lot of hours to spend in the car on our way home I’m betting spider crosses my mind several times!
One thing for sure . . even if that spider is gone, there will be another and probably another and another.

That’s scary with poor little blind Rita in the car!!

I would have to sell the car. No other option.

I agree!

At least it didn’t get to Rita! Thank goodness for that! Also glad it didn’t get either of you. I don’t like spiders or snakes!! I don’t care how many people try to tell me there are some good ones!!
Jackie says
I’m with Cinda, sell the car or exchange it with someone from the rest area. I would end up constantly looking around the car for the remainder of the trip expecting another to drop on my lap. Lol

Black widow spiders come out at night. A friend told me this, and said they took a black light into their garage time after time to hunt and kill them, and finally totaled up the kill of 8 black widow spiders. The heat in the car won’t kill them, as you now know!
Time to clean everything, EVERYTHING out of the car, shaking it and washing what can be washed. Examine every single corner, nook and cranny, even the visors! Then a thorough vacuuming – or a bug killer spray first in all the cracks? – then vacuuming.
Ya’ll are family, work together so you will feel a bit more comfortable going home!! Good Luck!

My sister was deathly afraid of every single spider in the universe. When she lived in Houston, she carried a can of bug spray in the car and if one were in there, she’d pull over to the side of the road and spray the entire car and then stand outside of it until she thought it was dead. =) It was pretty funny when I was driving behind her one day and didn’t know what the heck she was doing!
