I ran to Zwolle yesterday morning to get the tamales I had ordered.
Ahh, look at little Rita “looking” back there to see what I’m doing. She goes everywhere with me. Thank goodness she’s a good little traveler.
5 dozen for my friend who took care of the chickens and garden and cats while I was gone, 3 dozen extra hot for Vince (I have plenty of regular ones left in my freezer) and 2 dozen mild to leave at the lakehouse for my uncle.
The tamale place we like is basically a mom and pop operation. They run out of tamales almost every day so I call ahead since it’s probably 25 or 30 miles for me to there. I asked the guy today how many they make and he said they 1,500 dozen tamales per week. That is a lot of tamales!
I called Chad and asked him how many he thought they made and he said 800 tamales! He couldn’t believe how many they make.
It makes me happy for them. Their families made tamales before they did. My grandparent bought from them. They have really done well for themselves and they make the best tamales!

Love tamales. A mother and daughter team make them for the place where my husband works. Love it when he surprises me with them for dinner.

I love tamales! The home made ones are the best! You can tell the difference between those and the ones you buy that are frozen. The best ones I have come across are the ones at United that are in the fabric sacks!

That is a lot of work! We’ve made several dozen, but I can’t imagine making that many in a week! No one here makes them right. I miss the ladies at school who used to make them on order.

Are you looking at more places or just taking some r & r? Love tamales but have never made them. Enjoy your trip!
