The first chocolate pie I made was gone in no time and I was hearing rumblings that a second pie would be nice. For the first pie, I had mixed up the cornstarch, sugar, cocoa and other dry ingredients and brought them in a zipper bag so I had to go to town, and it’s about 25 miles one way to town . . maybe longer . . and buy cocoa powder. I had everything else needed to make a second pie so Friday, we spent a good part of the day in east Texas and when we came home, I made another pie.
It’s hard to believe that I really don’t like chocolate because I actually love this pie and am glad they talked me into making a second one.
That’s it. No more pies this trip. I don’t intend to go back to town except to pick up tamales that I ordered. They’re freezing them for me so I can pick them up early next week, stick them in the freezer here and then put them in the cooler when it’s time to go home but I am not going to the grocery store again so . . unless I make a pie crust using butter, which I have done before, the pie crust making is over for this trip.
Besides that . . who needs three pies?

Me! I need three pies! LOL That is a gorgeous crust!! It looks scrumptious EMPTY! I have never mastered *real* pie crust. I use one from an old Jello recipe book that uses oil. Mix it all up, roll it out. But it doesn’t hold together like real pie dough so getting it in the dish is tricky. Yours is so perfect, makes me want to try again. Almost. 😉

Who needs three pies?! Every pie lover on the planet, that’s who. 🙂 I’m a berry or pumpkin pie gal myself, so this one is actually not as tempting. Of course, I’ve never tried one of your chocolate pies!

Judy, your pie crust is so beautiful! I stay away from making crusts – just don’t have the knack or maybe the right ingredients. Do you have a recipe to share?

You can wait until you get home and share one with all your friends! LOL

The pie crust looks so perfectly fluted. I have been known to eat three pies in one week. Not lately, fortunately. It made me smile to think of you taking tamales from Louisiana TO Texas!

I always used chocolate pudding for pie filling, never thought about making my own. It’s funny that you don’t like chocolate. I go through stages with my chronic illnesses where I can’t eat chocolate, it completely nauseates me. I can eat chocolate cake, pudding, ice cream, etc., but the thought of a chocolate bar, M & Ms (which I LOVE most of the time) or the little Ghirardelli chocolate squares that we keep in the house for when we need a quick treat? Can’t go near them. I’m in one of those stages now. My husband doesn’t understand it. We were at Disney last week and had a chocolate covered Mickey ice cream bar. I couldn’t eat the chocolate covering, he had to do that and I ate the vanilla ice cream. I would have vomited if I ate the chocolate. It’s so strange because after awhile it will pass and I’ll be able to eat it again.
