There’s a wedding in the fall and Addie is going to be a flower girl. Nicole sent me pictures a while back of a couple of dresses Addie was trying on.
Is that child adorable? Like .. the cutest kid you’ve ever seen? Don’t answer that! 🙂
Later Nicole and I were talking and she said Addie’s dress was going to be $260. WHAT? I told her we could make it for way less than that. She said “You think?” Oh, yes!
I went to the local fabric store, found this pattern.
I told Nicole . . when I’m there, we’ll make a practice dress and we’ll let the bride see it and if she likes it, I’ll make a white one for Addie to wear. I told Nicole I’d get pink fabric for the practice dress and it can be a play/dress up outfit for Addie.
I sent this picture to Nicole. I was kinda thinking the darker pink tulle. It’s just a play dress . . but in the end, I got the lighter pink. Pattern, zipper, fabric . . everything – $29. For anyone who has sewn clothes, that dress shouldn’t take more than an hour to make.
Then Nicole sent me the picture of herself in the bridesmaid dress. “Could you make this?” Could but I’m not! 🙂 It has sequin looking fabric, the skirt part is lined. It comes down to the floor. No . . not making that one.

I think Addie will be the star of the show! She gets more adorable with every photo! I love that you will be making her a dress!!

She is absolutely beautiful!!!! I know you are a proud grand Mom.

Well maybe more than an hour but still simple…LOL. Have fun and Addie will be sooooooo happy!

Are attendants expected to purchase their own dresses/accessories these days? That is outrageous! Maybe I’m just too old as my 38th anniversary approaches. I paid for everything I expected to be worn at our wedding.
Dottie says
DH and I have been married 50+ years and back in the day, the weddings we were in as well as ours, the attendants all paid for their dresses. Same thing when our kids got married and/or participated in weddings.

Judy, Addie is adorable…but you know that my granddaughter who is due on August 19th will be the most adorable child I’ve ever seen! After all, she’ll be my first grandchild! :o) I hope I can enjoy her as much as you enjoy Addie!

I’m with Ellen–I find it horrible how brides expect their attendants to spend SO much money on dresses which will never be worn again! Good for you Judy making Addie’s–you are encouraging me to get back into sewing again!! My Mom made my first wedding gown and all the attendant dresses–I paid for all the fabric!
Helen says
You are totally correct, Judy…she’s just adorable! Have fun making the dress and good call on not making the sequined one!! Back (nearly 50 years ago) when I got married, I made my own gown and the gowns for my flower girls and my ring bearer pillows I didn’t make my attendants dresses, though!

Addie’s a cutie for sure, but you know, I have this really cute little four year old granddaughter too…. 🙂
Seriously, that price for a little girl’s dress is outrageous.

Working with sequins is not really a big deal, need to use a “jeans” needle to avoid needle breaks, made several sequin shirts for my niece in her rodeo queen days. With all you know how to do, lining isn’t hard either.

I’ll bet she can find someone to make it for a lot less than it will cost her at the store, though! That is an adorable dress. I think Addie will always prefer the pink one, though. =) With that pattern, you could make one almost identical to the one she’s wearing in that picture. She is cute as anything. Is she going to get her hair done at a salon?
Nelle Coursey says
She is a beautiful girl! She is going to be an even better looking young lady! Your son better get a big stick to keep the boys away! I am with you! If you can save that much money I think the bride would be ok with that! And you can make one that is much better quality than the bought one!

I agree with others that you making Addie’s dress is the way to go. I didn’t see Nicole’s sequin one on my computer. 🙂 I totally know you can make anything you put your mind to. Wonder how much they are charging for the bridesmaid ones. Addie is just so cute. I bet she is excited too.

I don’t know how you are going to make that dress in an hour. I am making a very similar one today. I have been at it for five hours, so far I have the bodice done and the skirt layers and petticoat sewn. Next will be putting together the three skirt layers, gathering them, sewing them to the bodice, putting in the zipper, and doing the hem and making a belt. I am not inexperienced, have been sewing for almost sixty years, and have made several similar dresses in the past. I think I will be doing well to finish it in one day, so if you can do this in an hour you are superwoman.
