Most of our bluebird boxes are out away from the house and we either have to put on our snake boots and walk to them or ride in the RTV. There’s one box in the orchard and I’m able to check on it pretty often. A while back I noticed a nest was being built. It seemed the nest construction was very slow and several times I wondered if it had been abandoned.
I checked it recently and look what I found!
Aren’t they beautiful? I love having the bluebirds around. We seem to have quite a few this year. I’m not sure we’ve ever had 6 eggs in one nest. Vince was going to go check his spreadsheet that he keeps and either he forgot to look or forgot to tell me and I forgot so I’ll have to remind me to check it.

So pretty. Yesterday when I was leaving our local open space area, I looked over at the fence and there was a bluebird, a goldfinch and a purple finch all showing off their spring colors.

I drove out to a lovely nursery by us that specializes in colorful patio pots this time of year. I brought home a a pretty hanging pot that I just left on the patio table for the present time. Surprise, at dinnertime last night I looked out the window at the pots and there was a hummingbird fluttering around the flowers on the patio table. This is amazing as I was the 4th home built in a new development of 200 homes where the scrub trees and birds are absolutely absent. No sounds but construction for the last year. Almost 100 homes are done including virtually all my neighbors to be so car sounds, people sounds, trees and grass are finally being restored. But to have a hummingbird 2-feet from my window was oh-so surprising. Spring must be here for real in the DFW area. Bluebird eggs definitely confirm that finding. I bet you were excited!

Where are you Stephani? I’m in NRH. I see a few bluebirds around but haven’t seen a hummer yet. Judy, I hope ALL those eggs hatch..that would be awesome!

Bluebirds are my favorite. I have a new box up and hoping one will move in soon. At our other house in another state I had lots of them but haven’t seen but one in the last spring. Hoping to get a tenant soon.

We had a blue bird box at our old house for over 20 years.Matter of fact Dh said he is going to get one and put it here at new house he misses them so. They came each year in February and built nest. Some times we had 3 batches if we got the old nest out soon after babies left.. It was so fun to watch They weren’t afraid of us one bit. They loved it when we mowed the grass so could get easy pickens on bugs. To watch them leave the nest you will have to watch ad dusk. Some come back to the same nest each year and have the same amount of eggs..

We feed all the birds that come to our feeders. I have put up one birdhouse, first come first serve. And I have one more to put up.

That’s a lot of eggs for one tiny bluebird mama! I’m surprised they are off the nest long enough for you to get a photo. I hope you will keep us posted and we’ll get to see little tweeters, too.

The same thing happened here… I was watching an empty nest for a long time. Thanks to your post, I looked today and there are at least 2 little blue eggs. ( no one sitting on them! ) Our brown-headed nuthatch house is once again home to at least 5,,,, born on 4/10…feathers coming in nicely today! They usually nest twice per season. Thanks for posting.
