You might be thinking I’m going to write about Tabouli Salad, which I love, but today, I’m talking about Tabouli Cardigan. It’s a KAL (knit along) but it isn’t a mystery because I know what it looks like and you can too if you click on the cardigan link. It’s so pretty! It’s so cable-y! And, it’s so green!
Remember the Thoreau yarn – Madelinetosh Sport- that I mentioned the other day??
Perfect . . except . . I cannot find it. I’ve had this yarn since 2011 and that’s before I started listing the location on my spreadsheet. If this was a newer yarn, it would say something like “Sport – 3”. And I’d go right to the tub that has “Sport- 3” and . . there it would be. The first clue doesn’t come out til May 18 so I have a little more time to search.
I did find several other options and here are two that I’m leaning towards. Y’all can help me decide!
The pattern suggests Stolen Stitches Nua, which looks like a fantastic yarn and I’d love to try it but I’m committed to using stash yarn when I can. The nua is 60% wool, 20% linen and 20% yak. Doesn’t that sound fun? It’s 306 yards/100 yards.
I’ll make the sleeves longer and I’ll need yarn for swatching so I’d be comfortable with a minimum of 1,500 yards.
First, is Bugga by The Verdant Gryphon. The color is Mallow Sawfly Larva. This yarn is 70% wool, 20% cashmere and 10% nylon. It’s 337 yards/100 grams so it’s comparable enough to work. I have 1,648 yards so the yardage is sufficient. I absolutely love this yarn. I have quite a few single skeins but this is the only one I have with a sweater’s worth. You know the problem with this one — if I use it, I won’t have it but how much nicer would it be to have a nice cardigan than to have four skeins of yarn?
Mrs. Crosby’s Hat Box is 75%, 15% silk and 10% cashmere. It’s 317 yards/100 grams so it’s also very comparable and it will work. I have 1,585 yards so, again, there’s enough yardage. The color is Hot Pimiento. Not sure that’s a good “granny” color but I love it. I love the purple too.
Decisions! I think even if I find the Thoreau (green), I’m going to go with one of these just because they’re so happy and pretty!

Granny’s can wear Hot Pimiento any time they want! Both colors are lovely, so I’m not really a help today on picking one or the other.
Laura says
That is absolutely a good granny color! I’ll bet Addie would agree.

I like the purple yarn.

Grannies wear purple, red, yellow, blue and green. My personal choices would be the purple or the pink.

Thanks, Judy. Just bought the pattern, but have no sport yarn on hand. Lucky for me I received a gift certificate at Christmas with the requirement to buy something for myself! Woo hoo! I feel a new sweater coming on… this fall. Too many other projects in the pipeline first. That won’t stop me from buying the yarn now, though the selection may be different later in the year. You’re the reason I have enough yarn for any sweater — the Hitofude I’ve been too afraid to start!
Nelle Coursey says
Who says you have to wear Granny colors? You can wear any color you want to as long as you like it. Besides you are NOT that old!! LOL
Rebecca in SoCal says
Why would you want to stick to “granny” colors??
Maybe you just threw that in there to see if anyone was paying attention. 😀
