Our asparagus is producing like crazy. We don’t have a huge asparagus patch but every year it produces more than the year before. Last year I was such a bad gardener. It was at the end of the garden season when I hurt my knee and walked away and never went back. Old plants weren’t pulled up, the asparagus wasn’t cut back. I usually give the asparagus at least some amount of water through the winter but not last year. I was surprised to see any of it sprouting back this spring but it’s a determined plant.
We get about half a pound every day. Look . . there’s a white one mixed in but I didn’t plant any white asparagus so I think it’s just a defective spear. I did plant the purple ones but they all end up green after they’re cooked.
We love asparagus and I’m so happy I finally convinced Vince that we’d be here long enough to make it worth the while to plant it.

I planted asparagus one of the first years after we moved here, but since hubby doesn’t like it, it didn’t last long…. He dug it up with the rototiller about 4-5 years later and that was the last I ever saw it. Men!!!

Asparagus is a cold-loving ditch weed that can thrive in colder climates. Ours really produced this year in E TX because the winter was unusually cold and wet. Yours looks beautiful!

I broke my vow to not garden this year .. I planted 6 asparagus plants and onions.. I have onions popping up already. My hubs wants Jalapeno pepper plants so I will plant some of those .. otherwise its to the farmers market for tomatoes, and zukes.
