Yesterday I told Vince I was going to till up a small area of the garden. He didn’t think I could do it but I was determined and I never back down . . especially once I’ve said I’m going to do something and he thinks I can’t. He did have to start the tiller for me. I tried using the big tiller with the rear tines but I didn’t last long on that. The smaller tiller was easier but I am betting that by tomorrow, I’ll not be able to move a muscle. Mostly it’s my thighs and shoulders that I feel getting sore. I got some done yesterday, then some done this morning, then some done this afternoon. This may be all the garden we have this year!
This area of the garden I’m giving up to the elderberries. I don’t need to be planting a 100′ x 100′ garden anyway. This is probably about 15′ x 20′ that will become the elderberry patch. I truly thought I’d get 14 holes dug and 14 elderberries planted but I got four planted. I did move them all out of the greenhouse into the RTV and then hauled them over to the garden. Vince picked up one and said “These are heavy. I’m surprised you moved them all!” You never know what I can do when I have to do it!
I’m not going to do any tilling tomorrow (probably never again) so I’ll hopefully plant 5 elderberries in the morning and 5 in the afternoon and be done with the elderberries. Those holes have to be deep and I ran into limestone in 2 of the 4 holes I dug. Not good!
I’ll need to put down the weed fabric and then pile leaves on top of the cloth and around the plants. This is going to be a permanent bed (no tilling ever again) so I may go ahead and put bark mulch on top of the leaves . . anything to choke out those blasted grass burrs.
This is where the tomatoes will go and I thought it would be big enough for all of them but I’m not sure. I have 19 stakes out there but I may have more tomatoes.
I doubt I get the tomatoes planted tomorrow. I’ll be happy if I get the elderberries done. That is hard work!!! It will all be worth it, right?

It will all be worth it. When everything is planted, you are going to be happy you did all of it. I’m so proud of you doing all that tilling! I knew you could, and you did! The planting will loosen the sore muscles a bit.

It will be worth it right after you get over the soreness

Your little garden looks hrest. Maybe get a little tiller like mine it doesn’t kill me it does a strip about 20 inches eifr. It doesn’t beat me to death and feels like cutting butter . I have black gumbo I’ve mixed compost leaves and potting soil in.. It dries out real fast so I always have to wait till rains and then till. Your soul looks better than mine so good luck with all your plantings .

You may not want to do anything tomorrow! Take a warm bath or shower! I bet you sleep well tonight. But you may be so sore you can’t sleep. If you need to borrow my gorilla cart, you can. It hauls around 200 lbs. I love it! It has pneumatic tires. Have never had to add air to them. I better knock on wood! LOL

I believe there is a advertise board at the Tractor Supply that you might be able to find someone to help with tilling. I got rid of my tillers a few years ago. Just work in small areaas. Vegetables are grown in big black tree pots. This has worked for me the past few years. I still enjoy working the flower beds and pots. Have a great weekend.
