There should be a vaccine for Garden Fever. It’s a real ailment. All the plants are out at the garden centers and my resolve to not have a garden is fading. We have a small tiller and I think I could use it to till up a small area now that the ground is wet and softer. I think I’m going to wait a few days for the ground to dry up, but not get rock hard, and then see if I can till up a little spot. Girls can do that, right?
Four of these are herbs and they’ll grow in pots – basil (2), dill, oregano. The other six are all peppers of various kinds. OK . . there were some potatoes too!
It’s late to be planting potatoes here but these are all sprouted and looked like they really needed a good home. I still want to get a couple of eggplants maybe. I think I’d better stay out of the garden centers for a while. What I’m really looking for is lavender. I can’t find any small pots. I’ve seen a couple of really big pots of it but chances are, it will die. I’m going to experiment with planting it in a pot with potting soil and bunny berries and see if I can keep it alive. I’ve been able to grow lavender everywhere we’ve lived but here . . I cannot grow it here and haven’t figured out if it’s the soil or the water but I’m going to try it in a pot and see how that goes.
And, there are about 20 tomato plants still in the greenhouse that need to be planted.
We’ve had a few cool days and that’s helped keep the tomatoes healthy in the greenhouse but their days in there are limited. It will be up in the 80’s again soon and that means well over 100 inside the greenhouse, even with the windows open, double solar screen on the roof and two fans going. I could bring them out but they’re so huge, they need to be in the ground and staked.
Maybe by the weekend I can have a permanent place for them in the garden . . hopefully!

My husband puts white sand as a mulch around lavender planted on a mound. We are hot and humid in SC. We usually grow in big pots.

You can do it Judy! I had a garden for years and no tiller…I started with 2 beds I dug out of the lawn (literally dug up and gave away all that sod & tilled with shovels & hoes for days). A few years later I added 2 more beds. It was probably a 30×30 foot garden when I was done. I’m very thankful for my man & his love of the rototiller now though, LOL!

I’m a girl and I have and use a little Mantis tiller. It’s a little stubborn about starting sometimes, but we mostly have come to an understanding…:)

I bought a mint plant today, now to find a pot to put it in because I know it spreads like crazy. It will fill in the bare spots along my walls in the backyard!

I got me a little tiller from amazon. I got electric so wouldn’t have to mess with starting the tbing. It works like a charm even let my single neighbor lady borrow jt. She loved it. I tilled up 7 rows. Like you my hubby can’t do so if I want i have to do or hire somdone. So I did it. You can to go for it.

I love my mantis tiller its something I can handle and till up that garden.. which reminds me after the kitchen remodel I need to get out in the raised bed gardens with some new soil and worms, till that ground up and rejuvenate it. Then in 2019 I will have a beautifully rejuvenated garden to plant in, as I am not having a garden this year. I will go to the Farmers Market in the mean time, I will plant a few herbs in pots to help curb my garden cravings. Yes it is a thing and Yes I am addicted to gardening. 🙂

I never til but my soil is not compacted, it is pretty loamy, so there might be a difference. I use the same rows for my garden, but change out the type of plants in each row. I put mulch down between the rows that I just keep adding to, so I have very few weeds. Just some small ones early on, but once the vegetables get established, I have them planted so close to each other, weeds cannot compete.

Tractor Supply did have lavender, but that was a few weeks ago. Wish we were closer to Wildseed Farms near Fredericksburg! They have everything! LOL DAY TRIP!!

Yep, those tomatoes need a garden! Of course you can do the tilling! I’ve grown banana peppers successfully in pots, tying it to my deck raining. Quite prolific, even with just one plant!

As I read the cartoon about the man eagerly anticipating his “Bean’s End” (gardening) catalog, I’ve been wondering about your decision to pass on the gardening this year. Just try keep it reasonable!

If I waited for Mike to till the garden for me it would never be done!–we have a little DR tiller and I used it all the time when I planted a garden.
