The last time we went to clean out our friend’s bunny barn, we dumped most of the bunny berries (aka rabbit poop) around the fruit trees.
Anyone not knowing that we have friends with bunnies would think there have been some busy rabbits around here.
We used most of what we got last time around the trees but I saved a couple of buckets . . for some reason which I do not recall but then when I got all the elderberries, I used it to mix with the dirt for planting them in buckets.
With Vince still not being able to do much hard labor, I asked my friends to let me know before too much stacked up so I could go and get it. I think we can bring back about 15 buckets in the truck in one trip but, with just me doing all the shoveling, I didn’t want to have to do that much at once. They had told me there was enough for a few buckets so yesterday morning, I crawled out of bed, threw on some old clothes and boots and headed for the bunny barn.
I rarely don’t have my phone but I didn’t have it and I walked into the barn and they had baby rabbits! I only saw four but I think there might have been more because one cage had a nesting box but I didn’t see any babies in there. One was solid black and it was so cute. I wasn’t sure how the mom would react so I didn’t get too close but I wanted to hold it and pet it and bring it home!
Then I came to my senses . . nothing else to feed; nothing else to find someone to care for while we’re gone . . I shoveled all the rabbit poop, loaded it in the old pickup and went back home!

Baby bunnies are adorable! One of my daughters raised rabbits in both 4-H and FFA. I’m glad you didn’t try to hold a baby. When we were still new at raising rabbits, we were concerned for one of the babies and I tried to check on it. Mama rabbit was having none of that and bit hard enough to leave marks, but didn’t break the skin. I have a very healthy respect for mama rabbits!

We had a French angora rabbit indoors for 8 years. She was a house rabbit and kept the two cats in line. Her fur was “plucked” for spinning into yarn.

Good for you, Judy! (Leaving them). They’re still there at your friend’s place, and with you filling fewer buckets, you need to make more frequent trips = more baby bunny time (while they’re still babies).

Yay for resisting the urge. You did good.

Bunnies are so cute but they do require a lot of work. I am like you, nothing else to feed and have someone take care of when I am not home!
