This morning, while sitting quietly an waiting for Vince to wake up, I was reading through my email and saw that Andrea Mowry – the Find Your Fade and Free Your Fade lady – had three new patterns.
One of them is Rose. I was instantly in love. There are things about it that normally would have me saying “No, Thanks!” — dolman sleeves, reverse stockinette (which could be changed easily), but there’s enough about this pattern/design that have me wanting to put everything aside and start this project NOW. I can see myself wrapped in this oversized cardigan from about October to May. Here, we so rarely use the heat in the house and our nights are fairly cool til the middle of June, so that means our house is chilly til about noon until mid-June. If we turn the heat on, and by mid-afternoon, we need the a/c, I feel like I’ve wasted propane by using the heat so we’re usually sitting around in the early morning hours with sweaters on and blankets over our legs. It begins warming up outside early but our house has very thick rock walls and lots of insulation, with a 10 or 12′ porch covering most of our windows so it takes half the day for our house to heat up. Rose looks like the absolute perfect sweater for my cool mornings.
Cables! Need I say more? I love cables! I love everything about them. While this pattern has some strange techniques, as in what we don’t normally see in sweater construction, but Andrea’s patterns always have amazingly easy to follow and detailed instructions. Those who have written reviews of Rose gush about how fun it is to make.
Truly, if I had the yarn here, I would put everything aside and cast on this sweater today. For this sweater, because of the construction, I think I do not want a super soft yarn. I think I want something that isn’t crunchy but something that has a bit more body. I’m thinking about Socks that Rock, Mediumweight, but I’m not sure. I have very little yarn in sport weight so making this will mean ordering yarn. Darn it! Seriously, I’m loving digging yarn out of my stash and using it.
I don’t think I’m going to do the fade but at this point, I’m not sure. Half the fun is choosing the yarn!

Pretty sweater. I like the neckline and the long cuffs. Based on what you are saying about using this sweater in the morning during the winter, a fun modification would be to have a thumb hole so you could have the cuffs stay low on your wrists. You would still be able to roll up the cuffs if it gets a bit warm.

I’d wear it! but I can’t do cables and I don’t think I could do dolman sleeves if my life depended on it! LOL

You are an evil person – now you have me thinking I need to make this sweater and there’s no sport yarn in the stash! 🙂

I’m not sure I want dolman sleeves either….but I love every other part of the sweater….if I knew how to change the sleeve I would make it in a heart beat…..
