Yesterday afternoon, I was reading email on my phone while in Abilene and I saw that ESK had posted a Flash Knit Along. I love those kinds of things where you have to knit, knit, knit as fast as you can. I was two hours from my yarn stash. There were several choices for a pattern but I knew I wanted to make Siren Song and it needs 840 yards, which meant I would have to have at least two skeins of the same yarn and there wasn’t enough time to order anything.
As soon as I got home, I began stash diving. I went to my trusty spreadsheet and found that I had two skeins of Bugga in 17 Year Cicada.
I found them right off the bat. Perfect color! Some Bugga is thicker than other Bugga. Even though there’s regular Bugga and Skinny Bugga, this was regular bugga but looks and feels more like Skinny Bugga. I wound one ball which was so tangled that I had to do most of it by hand. The tangling was probably due to a little too much loving and snuggling on my part through the years. It’s yarn I purchased in 2013 and I truly love it.
After paying closer attention to the pattern and the yarn, I realized that each skein is labeled as 400 yards and I doubt they really have that much and even if they do, 800 yards is going to be cutting it too close. What’s a girl to do?
I went back to the Bugga tub and tried to decide if any of the other blues would work if I blended them in.
A couple might work but I don’t want to screw up a big project by not having enough yarn from the beginning. Back to the drawing board.
My spreadsheet tells me I have three skeins of Handmaiden’s Casbah Sock in Jacobean Blue. Actually, it tells me I have five skeins .. because I bought two skeins and then bought three skeins. There’s probably a project I was planning to make that required five skeins. Too bad.
Found it right off the bat . . all labeled and in a bag.
My first choice was the darker blue Bugga but this one will work just fine. Two skeins are wound and this will be my constant project, hoping to get the shawl knitted by the March 15 deadline. By the end of this day, I’ll probably be wishing I had slept more and knitted less last night! 🙂
I’m loving digging through the stash and finding such treasures.

It will be lovely in either, though I also like the darker Bugga yarn.
