This week was definitely not my normal week. As crazy as it was with Vince being in the hospital and all the trips to doctors, it seemed like days would never end and yet it all went by so quickly. I think I was pretty exhausted and don’t have much to show for what I did this week.
Patterns Added:
The first of these are some I’ve already shared with you:
There’s only one I added that I haven’t shared yet.
Yarn Added:
No yarn was added. This is funny – my mail lady called me yesterday. She said “Is something wrong? I haven’t delivered yarn to you in weeks!” It would have been more funny if Vince hadn’t been sitting there hearing that conversation. You would think he would be happy that yarn has not been delivered but I think it made him wonder just how much yarn really gets delivered here since the mail lady is calling and checking on me.
Projects I Worked On:
Sunset Highway – A little more progress has been made. I got started on one sleeve.
I finished the Fade Shawl. Still haven’t blocked it.

I’m playing catch up on your post as we’ve been out of town. Like you we are in a rural area with a not so great hospital. The best thing I’ve ever done is to sign up for Life Flight insurance. It is a helicopter ambulance service that is almost nationwide. It cost about $65 a year to fly a patient to a major hospital. Those flights now cost around $10,000. I figure it is well worth the small cost. Different areas have different companies but they all work together to provide the medical service.

I love the shawl and the sweater on top. That shawl will be so pretty. I didn’t sign up for the UFO challenge. I wanted to, but I didn’t know where to start. Each time I made a Quilt of Valor or other quilt I tried to use up as much of the cut material as I could. So if I cut 6 inch strips to cut into blocks or 3 inch strips I tried to finish them into some kind of block. 9 patch, 4 patch, stars, log cabins. I had a bunch of the blocks from this project or that but they weren’t of a size to do a different project with. So I decided this year I was going to try to either enlarge them so they would be of a similar useable size or if I had enough of something to use them in a quilt. I’ve surprised my self. So far I’ve finished one QOV sampler quilt. Then I started enlarging some blocks by adding triangle pieces to each side to form larger squares. Usually it was white I added so it was framing the blocks. Tonight I went through and pressed them all and squared them up and sized them. 7, 8, 9, and 10 inches. Wow, I have 30 blocks of the 8 inch ones, and 25 of the 9 inch. By the time I add the bars between each block and the borders I will have two more QOV tops which I think I can finish this month. I enlarged some of the small 6 inch Kalidascope blocks that I’ve had for years. Also in red, white and blues and they look so pretty that I can add them in with the star blocks and have another top. All without buying any more material and using from my stash. So even though I’m not competing I want to thank you for the challenge and encouraging me to take a second look at those unfinished projects. Also. I want to back up what Toni suggested about Life Flight. We’ve never had the need for them but we buy the insurance every year. I’ve seen that helicopter land right here in town in front of the fire department and we live only a block away. We’ve got a big farm field across the road from us and I bet they could land there too. They are so expensive if you haven’t paid for the insurance but I look at it as helping to support a service I may never need but maybe a child of mine will.

I had to be flown by helicopter last year. The cost was over $42,000.
Our insurance only covered $11.000. I will carry the insurance even if we do move back to a big city. Well worth the money if you happen to need.
