Today was one of those days when a couple of times, I had a minute to think, and I almost broke down and cried. The day isn’t over . . there’s still time for that.
With retirement probably coming sooner rather than later, I needed to get a colonoscopy, mammogram, annual bloodwork and all that done while I still have good insurance so this morning I was going to see my doctor . . who is actually a P.A. at the local walk in clinic. When we got up this morning, Vince said he was going with me because he didn’t feel good. We get in to see the doctor and I told Vince . . you go first. My stuff is routine. Vince began telling him . . I had chest pains all night, I kept sweating. Richard looked at the chart the nurse gave him. BP was high. Pulse was over 170.
Richard was pushing us out to get to the ER. I’m saying . . WAIT! It was me who was coming to see you. Can you please just order a mammogram, a colonoscopy, bloodwork and do you think my thyroid looks like it’s a bit big? Yes . . thyroid may be a bit enlarged so I have an ultrasound of the thyroid, a mammogram and a colonoscopy scheduled!
In the meantime, Vince and I rush over to the E.R. We’ve heard bad things about our local hospital from enough people we trust that I had about sworn that we would die at home before going there but . . we went. I was impressed. The place seemed clean, the nurses and doctors and everyone else we interacted with were all amazing. They did tests, they do not believe he had a heart attack but kept Vince at least for one night, they’re going to do one or two more tests tomorrow. The doctor explained everything to us, gave us the option of Vince going by ambulance to Abilene or staying here. We both felt comfortable staying here. If anything serious is discovered, we will go to Abilene but for now, we’re confident with the care he’s received.
While I was sitting in the E.R. with Vince, the first doctor’s office was calling with an appointment for the mammogram, and the ultrasound of the thyroid and can you be at the gastro’s office at 1:45 today?
I’m home . . I had hoped to knit but I believe I’ll be in bed early tonight.

I will be praying that they find what is wrong and can take care of it ASAP! Glad you had your tests scheduled in the meantime too! Hope you can get some rest tonight! Keep us posted!

All that had to be very stressful for both of you. I’ll be thinking of you both and look forward to good news tomorrow. Retirement planning can be exciting and anticipatory all at the same time. We have no crystal ball to let us know what it’s going to look like til we get there. Rest well and keep us posted.

Know that I am thinking about you and Vince, and hoping for nothing but good news. Please keep us poste, (as much as you feel comfortable sharing.) I can’t speak for anyone else, but having been a blog reader since the Sunshine Quilt days… I feel as if I know you both!

Judy, I am sorry you have had to endure a day like today. My husband was terribly ill this past summer and it was horrid. It’s awfully hard to take good care of yourself. I will pray for you both. Remember, the hospital staff is there to care for Vince and until he gets home, you run the risk of overdoing it, so remember to take time for you, too. We’ve never met, but know that if I was near, I would give you a big hug and help you take care of the chickens and cat and Rita. (Now, those snakes on the other hand…well, you’d have to give me a gun and teach me how to shoot!!) Take care.

Judy, so sorry for all that you and Vince are going through. Sending prayers for you both for healing and peace. And I must ask, although I’m certain you’ve researched this thoroughly, you ARE using Ceylon cinnamon in your elderberry syrup and not the store variety which is Cassia (unless otherwise specified)?
Sherrill Pecere says
YIKES! That sounds like a horrible day! Hope things go nowhere but up!! Will be thinking of and praying for you both.

We went through stressful times last fall. The good thing is that they caught the problem and he is taking meds for it now. So much better to get a warning. My prayers for all to go well.

Thinking about you and Vince…. take care of yourselves!

Prayers and thoughts with both of you
Joyce in Oregon says
Judy, sending hugs your way. Wish all your blog readers could come to help — you’d have a whole army taking care of you… and we could probably find your cookie molds while we’re at it! 🙂 I’m glad the doctor is proceeding with caution and giving you options. Sounds like a good place to be. Here’s to hoping that Vince is doing fine and everything was related to his flu-type bug. I’m also glad you’re taking care of all of your maintenance items now. Great plan! Take care, Joyce

I hate to say this but now you know how I have felt for the past year! It is so scary when this happens! I was getting so depressed, but my Tuesday friends pulled me through it! I can’t thank them/you enough for encouraging me and helping me get through this. I think I am finally doing better now. It has been almost a year and I think we are both getting back to normal, whatever that is!

What a stressful day. I’m glad the hospital turned out to be much better than its reputation.
