Vince does not have the flu. He does not have pneumonia. I appreciate your advice but I do know that the flu vaccine is not for a stomach bug. I doubted he had the flu since he was not running fever and since he was feeling better last night. He was feeling light headed if he got up too fast or moved too much (so he says . . haven’t seen that happen!) and said his chest didn’t feel right. He called Doctor on Demand and had a very nice doctor but I think she was afraid he was having a heart attack. Honestly, from the symptoms he was giving her, I see how she thought that but I know that a man’s description of symptoms can sometimes be a little exaggerated. He told me his chest felt tight like a respiratory problem. He told the doctor he had chest pain. When she asked if he had arm pain, he told her he had shoulder pain. I could her panic in her voice so, from across the room, which I detest doing, I said “The shoulder pain is from an injury!”
She insisted that he go to the E.R. but our hospital . . not some place we’re going, and since the roads were too bad to go to Abilene, he went ahead and went to his primary care doctor who did an EKG, which was fine. He did a few other tests and was confident Vince was not having a heart attack. Something may not be right with the “electrical” system so he did some more tests and some blood work, took Vince off one medication he was taking, and once he gets the results of everything back, they will talk.
I think he’s going to make it. He still doesn’t feel good and the doctor said the med he stopped could cause him to feel light headed and tired so he wanted Vince to rest the next few days, take it easy and by Monday he should have test results back.
For all those recommending Tamiflu, I’m not a fan. I think there’s a lot of advertising behind it. I think there are side effects that I don’t want to deal with. It doesn’t “cure” the flu. Everyone must make their own decisions about whether to take it or not . . I will not take it.

Vince just needs to listen to Nurse Judy. I only have one black dress and don’t wear it in cold weather. Get well Vince.

I’m just glad Vince is well. Both of you – take care of yourselves. Judy – love reading your blog.

Yay! I knew you would sort him out … if anyone could. I don’t take that stuff, either. I just had the flu. It was nasty. No sense making it nastier.

I am not a Tamiflu fan either.

I’m glad that Vince saw the doctor, in spite of the fact that he is a man. I hope that he is feeling better and out of your hair again on Monday. On the bright side, if he has to rest the next few days, he shouldn’t be making you run errands with him this weekend! Take care!

My husband is taking a lot of medications for various things and is always dizzy and light headed. Could you tell me which medication Vince was taken off of? I have suspected for some time he is overmedicated.

Just a profession note on the Tamiflu….As a pharmacist I see a lot of it coming in even though the tests for the flu was negative. but, patients EXPECT a pill of some kind if they see a doctor (they have people trained). A lot of the Tamiflu prescriptions are accompanied by an antibiotic prescription-the flu is a virus and antibiotics do not work on viruses! So, who know what they really have, but if the Tamiflu prescription is appropriately expensive, they settle for the antibiotic and go home and are better in 3-5 days!
And, yes, Mary, many folks are overmedicated. Ask you pharmacist what they think your husband could do without. A lot of add on medications are used to treat the side effects of a previous medication when all they had to do was change the first med and things would be fine.
