First, we have freezing rain predicted for today, pretty much all day and into the evening. I have no idea what to expect. The temps are going to stay around 33° all day. I don’t expect much ice but it doesn’t take much to knock our power out. We have thunderstorms predicted through Saturday. It wasn’t much of a storm that knocked our power out for about 5 hours yesterday. So . . if you don’t hear from me, don’t worry — it means we’ve lost power.
I forgot that I had taken this picture Monday night. I keep Speck’s big bed out because I keep hoping Rita will decide she likes that bed and stop jumping on and off the sofa so much but so far, she gets in and out of it but she never stays in it. Monday night when I was up with her during the storm, she completely wore herself out and I looked over and she was in Speck’s bed.
I thought it was funny that, when she was scared and needed comforting, she went to Speck’s bed. I wonder if she remembers that it was his bed or if she even remembers him. Anyone know what dogs do or don’t remember? I’ve washed the beds but her sense of smell is so keen, I’m sure she can still smell him . . if she remembers him.
Last night Vince was tucking her in before we went to bed. I asked him if he loves her and he said “YES!” I said “When you first saw her outside, did you think you would ever love her?” He said “No . . I wasn’t going to let her in the house and you made me do it!” So, the way I see it, Rita should like me best but she doesn’t. She’s Vince’s girl and there’s never any question about who’s her favorite!

Oh good grief!! You SHOULD be her favorite because you’re the one who gets up with her when she’s scared (among everything else). If she only knew…LOL

Dogs remember a lot! We adopted a 3 year old Chihuahua terrier mix from a neighbor who had to move and couldn’t take him. To the day he died 9 years later, whenever he heard a load sports car outside he’d run to the door expecting the teenage son to appear.

At our house boy dogs always love me best and girls dogs love my husband best. Always.

I don’t know for sure what they remember, but I do know there’s a statue to a faithful dog in a small Montana town. He went to the station every day with his owner, and waited for him at the end of the day. Unfortunately, on the way home one day, the man died. Until the end of that dog’s life, he went to the station every single day, morning and night, looking for his friend. So they must remember.

That is such a cute pic of Rita in Speck’s bed. I too remember the story of the dog story that Susan told about. It brought me to tears when I read it.
