I’m a huge fan of elderberry juice. I’ve been drinking a glass of juice (made from the concentrate) three times a day for the past few months. Vince will drink if I hand it to him and say “drink this!” but he doesn’t want to drink it. This morning and after lunch, he did drink some.
This is the brand I like and I just opened my last bottle. I ordered more from Amazon and it should be here next week but I’ll run out before it gets here. Our local health food store carries but they’re having a hard time keeping it in stock. When I’m in town next time, I’ll check to see if they have it but in the meantime, I remembered that I have dried elderberries.
I’m going to use Wellness Mama’s recipe for elderberry syrup and I’m going to start pampering my elderberry plants and hoping they produce elderberries next year.

What’s it taste like? And where’d you get plants? I’ve been reading so much about it the past year or two but still haven’t jumped on bandwagon.

We have a couple of elderberry bushes on our property, but even if the plants are covered in berries in the spring, by the time they start to ripen the birds have descimated them! I used to make elderberry jelly (one of a couple of flavors of jelly my hubby will eat) but haven’t made it in years. Didn’t know there was such a thing as elderberry juice for sale!

My friend covers her plants with cheesecloth so the birds don’t get the berries.
My daughter in law makes elderberry gummies for the kids. They love them.

You can buy bird netting that’s a lot more durable than cheesecloth.

That elderberry syrup recipe is very similar to mine except mine has 12 whole star anise in it. Yours makes about twice a much as my recipe so 24 star anise. The best thing is it actually tastes good, not like medicine at all.

Oh good. He needs to take it 2 tablespoons every 2 hours! I use wellness mama recipe for mine too.

We looked at Elderberry juice at the menmarket today. It was produced and bottled in Hartsburg Missouri, just a short drive from Jefferson City. Another reason to move back to Missouri.

BTW, there’s a good chance you won’t get it. I know several households where someone didn’t get it. Of course, if you are in the same room with Vince, and not wearing a mask, or in general, you’ve already been infected before he knew he was sick, it’s a toss up. Elderberry – you like the taste, or you take it for health purposes?

In northern Germany we drink the concentrated juice with hot water in the wintertime. Maybe 1/4 of juice and 3/4 hot water. Just try and add hot water till you like the taste. Very good against colds and lots of vitamin c. I really like it but my hubby does not.

I’ve been making a recipe similar to this all fall and winter and so far have been quite healthy with only a slight cold hitting me for a few days. ?. My hubby takes some every day and once in a while will add it to his kefir smoothie!
