Having a dog that’s afraid of storms, is almost like having a baby in that it definitely interferes with my sleep when those storms come through at night.
Rita and I were up around 2 a.m. and again at 4. I was dreading getting through the day with so little sleep. Vince left about 6:40 a.m. and around 7:45, really big storms rolled through and our electricity went off. I thought . . Good! I’ll go back to bed! I called the electric company and then I went back to bed and slept til 10. I got up and kinda wandered around for a while. It was very cloudy and dark out so I didn’t have enough light to knit unless I used one of the battery powered lanterns. I had no idea how long the power would be out and I hated to run down batteries because we’d need those lanterns after dark. I figured I had enough light to wind some yarn for the upcoming projects so I got a few skeins wound.
Vince called to see if the power was back on . . nope! He said he’d bring home lunch. That got me thinking . . about once a week I could call him and tell him the power is out and he could bring home lunch and I could tell him “Oh, it just came back on!”
We had our lunch by candle light and just as we finished eating, the lights came back on.
I went out at 4:30 a.m. and checked the rain gauge. When I pulled it out to dump the water, it fell apart. The sun here is horrible on even the hard plastic rain gauge. Then I looked out back and saw that the trash can lid had blown up.
I thought . . there’s a big rain gauge! 🙂 I wouldn’t want to be the one having to pull those water logged stinky, nasty bags out of that can. Vince will probably take all the bags out this evening if it’s done raining or he’ll just go to the landfill tomorrow.
We almost had white caps in the front yard. That’s a lot of water but it soaks in or drains off almost as soon as the rain stops. It’s still a soggy mess but there’s no standing water. It’s a huge mud hole around the chickens because they keep the dirt loose and then it rains and it’s mud . . lots of mud! The eggs will all be muddy from them getting in the nests with muddy feet. I know it’s not right but I’ll probably throw the muddy eggs out instead of trying to clean them up.
Looking towards the driveway . . more water. It’s a sloppy mess out there right now but, we have electricity so I’m not complaining.
And, for the moment, the sun is trying to peek through.

I wonder how long it would take you to be tired of lunch brought in one day a week. 😉

We’re having flash flood warnings tonight. It warmed up, all the snow melted, and we got a couple inches of rain. It has nowhere to go, since the ground is still frozen and it won’t sink in, so there’s water, water everywhere!! We’re not near the rivers and on pretty high ground, so we’ll be fine, but if it keeps raining, we may have some trouble getting around for a few days.

Did you hear how much rain you actually got? It looks like a lot!
