You’ve probably heard me say before that I’m not a coffee drinker but I do like iced coffee . . but only when made with a coffee that I love. I don’t love ordinary coffee but I am head over heels in love with the King Cake Coffee from Community Coffee.
In the spring of 2016, I ordered the Toddy Cold Brew pot and I love it. I think the carafe is a little fragile but the top part works perfectly with a mason jar so if the carafe gets broken, life goes on.
Not long ago, I ordered a wire mesh tube thing that goes down into a jar and it’s supposed to work like the Toddy . . but it doesn’t. It wasn’t expensive and I thought it was be easier, especially for traveling, but it allows fine grounds/residue into the coffee and . . it just doesn’t work like the Toddy.
Last night I made sure to put some King Cake coffee on to brew and it should sit a bit longer but I couldn’t wait to have some this morning.
We found the King Cake coffee on sale and we had coupons and I think we have enough to last us a while . . maybe not til next year because a friend here likes it and Nicole likes it and I’ll share but we should be set for a few months.
When I make my coffee, I mix it with a little milk and sweet it with sweetened condensed milk. I know . . horrible . . but it’s delicious! I’m sure it could be heated but I drink mine on ice.

What’s the difference in making the coffee in the toddy thing and just brewing it in a coffee maker? I know Community’s available in TX but is the King Cake flavor only available in LA?

Google “benefits of cold brew coffee” and you’ll find all kinds of info. I can’t say with certainty what the benefits might be but I do believe, because I’ve read it at many places, that cold brew has less acid. Since I only drink iced coffee, it seems crazy to put ice in hot coffee or even brew it hot, let it cool and place it in the fridge when I can just brew it cold.
As far as where you can buy it, you’ll have to check your local stores but it may be too late for this year. Tomorrow is Mardi Gras and the places that did have it may be sold out. It’s only available during Mardi Gras. I was able to buy it here last year at Kroger, but with our Kroger closing in less than a month, they didn’t have it this year. I did not check Walmart, who does sell Community Coffee, because I knew I could get it for less in Louisiana.

There is a “purity” in cold brew coffee that other coffee just doesn’t have. I love my coffee (and we use our Keurig every day) but when I take the time to make cold brew, life is sweeter!

On your recommendation I ordered the Toddy Cold brew pot. I love the coffee it produces. I am not sure about the Kings Cake coffee. I found it on Amazon and it says it have hints of cinnamon and vanilla and I am not much into flavored coffee. To get a good price I would have to order 6 packages, otherwise it is very expensive.
