My uncle has a very old cat. I think he said she’s 16 years old but I could be way wrong. She has the most annoying meow. I think each meow lasts about 5 minutes. She just drags it out. Maybe that’s a meow with a southern accent.
She’s an outside cat but my uncle has closed in an area underneath his house . . it’s kinda like a basement and his garage is in there and then you walk through a room and up stairs to get to the main level. He’s closed in an area for Josie and she goes in every night and he closes her up so she’s safe.
Last night, it got cold. Cold to these southwest Louisiana folks is 39° so he turned on the heater for Josie.
This morning my uncle told me . . Josie will be sitting on top of the cooler by the heater. Sure enough, I went downstairs and there she was – right in front of the heater. They all have their routine around here and the minute that heater goes on, Josie parks herself in front of it. I can’t say that I blame her. 39° seems cold down here with the humidity and it was windy this morning. 39° doesn’t seem nearly so cold at home.

Josie must be about the same age as my Fang. He’ll be 17 in June but an indoor spoiled cat. I’d think it’d be difficult for most cats to make it to that age as an outside cat.

I have a barn cat. I bought a heated cat house for her for winter. It has to be plugged in, but the pad inside doesn’t heat up unless the cat is on it. I can’t really tell about the heater your Uncle has, but if there is a safety concern, this is an excellent alternative. It is also for sale on chewy.com, but here is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Products-Thermo-Kitty-Shelter-Outdoor/dp/B00KCNUVMW/ref=sr_1_45?ie=UTF8&qid=1518154196&sr=8-45&keywords=cat+houses+for+outdoor+cats+heated
