Hello Everyone
Sorry for the late start today. It has been busy at work and home this week and yesterday we were traveling.
In honor of Super Bowl Sunday, I think I will talk about snacks. I know! I know! It seems a little off the retirement topic but if you look real hard, you can see my point. Judy claims I am a constant junk food snacker. I have been known to indulge a bit but nothing excessive mind you. Since we are trying out our retirement budget, I am experimenting with finding some “good stuff” that’s not too expensive. Currently my favorite is chex mix. Do you know how many kinds pre made chex mix you can find? Bold, Cheesy, Jalapeno, Hot and Sour, Taco, and on and on. Now, I feel it’s my obligation to find the brand and flavor that’s best for the buck. That may mean that I have to buy several bags of every flavor I find. Judy keeps complaining that I am buying junk and going over my allocated snack. I open the bag, pour some in a bowl, and from the Queen Knitting Throne I hear, “what kind is that?” “It’s Cheesy” I say, and then comes the response from the peanut gallery, “I don’t like kind!” Oh really? I’m sorry. I should have asked first, please forgive my insideration!! As I pass by the throne with my very small bowl, like a flash of lightening, here comes the outstretched hand, still holding knitting needles, snatching an excessive amount of my meager serving. Munch, munch, munch, and then I hear, “I’ll take some of that”. So back to the kitchen I go, filling another bowl and delivering it with a smile the the anointed one. As I move toward my recliner, the next request is uttered, “Can you please fix me a Dr. Pepper? These are a little salty.” “Sure Dear” I say, I would be honored. So back to the kitchen I go and open the frig. The I hear, “Oh I forgot to bring some over from the shop, do you mind?” I start counting 1 2 3 …….165. I finally get to return to my chex mix . . that tiny little portion and then I hear, “I’ll take a few more while you are still up”. Fifteen minutes later, I am allowed to sit down to watch the last half of the show I have been waiting all day to see, and eat my handful of chex mix. So you see, snacks are a health food to me because of all the exercise I get. As my Daddy always said,a snack in the hand is the key to a long healthy life. Until next week, Go Chex Mix!

OMG! This is hilarious. We solve the snack issue by just NOT purchasing any at my house. ha ha Do you have a ride back to Texas, Vince?
Dottie says
LOL, LOL – thanks for the chuckle, Vince – I think I’ll be laughing the rest of the day (while I eat my bowl of snacks, LOL).
Sherrill Pecere says
OK, I’d cut him off right here!! LOL
Chris says
Make your own Chex mix. It’s not hard and cheaper. Love your comments. Keep it up.
Joan says
Thanks for the chuckle! I love your perspective of life at the ranch! (Sorry Judy)
Tricia says
LOVE this!!! It’s great to see a different side to our beloved Judy!
Verna A. says
This is hilarious! I had no idea there are so many flavors of Chex Mix! I think homemade is better, but that just makes more work for Judy.
Valerie. Zagami says
HaHaHaHa best laugh all week!
Rebecca in SoCal says
What would it be like if it were a kind she DOES like? I quail at the thought! 😉
Jackie says
You are too funny! I as well had no idea there was so many varieties of Chex. I never knew one could make their own version, I’ll have to search this out. Look forward to next weeks post.
Jackie says
You know what started all this right? Your snack! LOL.
Have you thought of making your Chex mix homemade?
Dotti says
Queens of the needles and King of Snacks, you are truly a royal couple.
pattilynn9 says
Hope you’re enjoying the Super Bowl…and your snacks!! lol.
Penny says
This is too funny! have you considered making your own Chex mix snack? There would not only be generous servings for you & Judy but it probably would keep you better in budget!
Nelle Coursey says
You do know there is a recipe where you can make your own don’t you? You can buy big boxes of the Chex cereal, peanuts, etc and you make it yourself. Then you can put it in containers and eat it later. Then maybe it will be cost effective for you?? Just ask Judy, but please don’t interrupt her knitting! LOL
cassews says
Ohhhh I am so there with your chex mix snack .. Add peanut M&M’s for a great taste .. mmmm We take that camping all the time …. Everyone loves it !
(thanks for the laugh I needed it tonite !!)

Vince, this had me laughing and making me wish I had ANY kind of Chex Mix to snack on. My other half loves it too, but the conversation would have been just the opposite in our house. I would be the one knitting, but I would also be the one having to wait hand and foot on the King on the Throne watching TV. Having said that, I do think Judy deserved to be spoiled today. After all she did spill her Dr. Pepper all over her beautiful knitting project. So sad. 🙂

LOL

Great way to start my day! Ya’ll crack me up!
Sharon says
Too funny! I can’t believe you didn’t know you could make homemade Chex mix. You poor thing, you may never have had Muddy Buddies either. Look it up. Sweet home Chex mix.

I was laughing so hard all the way through! Hubby had to stop working and come see what it was, he was tickled about the elevated status of Judy as enthroned knitter. (My youngest dtr and I are both compulsively inclined in the same addiction.) What a riot, you two should start a podcast!
Kathleen says
Two people with entertaining blog posts in one family. What a treat for us.
Yes, Judy should be treated like a queen!
Susan says
Okay, I laughed so hard my son had to find out what was so funny. I do love seeing the street from the other side. I know that was all tongue-in-cheek of course, because you love Judy so much you’d do anything for her. LOL. I like Chex Mix myself – the old fashioned kind that we make in the oven ourselves, of course.
Liz says
Have you tried making your own but instead of cooking it in the oven, put it on low heat on the smoker, stirring every 15 minutes…….my oh my! You won’t go back to the store bought stuff.
