Yesterday afternoon I finished Vince’s socks and he tried them on and they fit.
My guess is that he will never wear them. He tried them on. They fit. He says he likes them. Then he said “If I wear them, they will wear out, right?” Yes . . like everything else. Then he said “I’m taking them off before they get messed up!’ I said “I made them for you to wear!” Not gonna happen!
I made these socks in 2007 and he has never worn them. Every single time I’m working on socks, he will say “When are you going to make me socks?” and I always say “When you wear the first pair I made!” He never has and probably never will. But, I felt like it was time for another pair so now he has two pairs.
Actually, he has 2-1/2 pairs because after I had been making socks for me for a while, I decided I could wing it and just make a sock a little (or a lot) bigger and it would fit Vince. I made the first one. It is huge! Very huge! I still have it and we still laugh about it. If I ever catch Big Foot out scratching in my yard, I have one sock that will probably fit him.

Love the Vince socks! Maybe if you made him 10 or 20 pair, he would decide they wouldn’t all wear out… (insert smiley face) Make the second large sock, and send it to Cheyenne River Reservation – see Yahoo group:NativeAmericanSupport – or go to the Cheyenne River Youth Project https://www.facebook.com/LakotaYouth/

I’m knitting a pair of those too, I’m starting the heel on the 2nd today. Not sure about that garter on the top of the sock, the purls are killing my hands. Have you made them in plain stockinette? Is the fit the same? I do like that they’re fast in thick yarn!

I knit my father a pair of socks one year, and he kept asking if I would knit him another pair. I decided to test whether or not he REALLY wanted them, so I told him the next pair I knit him would be pink. He said that was absolutely fine and he would gladly take pink. I took that as a sign he truly wanted more socks, and no I didn’t actually knit him pink socks. He wore the one I knitted him frequently, so I’m glad I did them. I agree that I wouldn’t knit them for someone who isn’t going to actually wear them, especially since men’s feet are huge! 🙂

I LOVE the color of Vince’s socks!! Just promise him that you will knit him another pair when these wear out. Because you love to knit! Great opportunities await!

Unfortunately I’m like Vince. I’ve made myself 4 pairs of socks and am so afraid of the heal wearing through that I don’t wear them. Actually I’ve made 5 – my first pair was of quality worsted weight yarn and one heal wore through right away. The rest were with sock yarn, but I didn’t know about reinforcing the heal. I still don’t know what to do for that. And I have yarn for another two pairs.

Sock yarn is made for socks. It doesn’t wear out very easily. Wear your socks! Then, if you get a hole, knit MORE socks!
