It’s time to get back on the healthy eating, exercise lifestyle. It will probably be mid-February before we go full scale but we’re kinda trying to ease into this.
I think it’s crazy weird that both my sleep last night and steps today are 111%. I’ve never had the percentages be exactly the same.
I had not been able to walk since about August because of my knee. I could have started walking last week but didn’t so I figured today was the day.
Last night I used the sleep tracker. That’s the feature I like best of fitness tracker. It says I woke up twice during the night. I don’t think I knew I was awake. Once it says I was awake for 5 minutes and once for 10 minutes.
There’s so much info out there about how much sleep we need and how much deep sleep we need. This article says 20% of your sleep should be deep sleep. According to those numbers, I needed 1 hour, 30 minutes of deep sleep. I had 5 hours, 20 minutes. While I seriously doubt that my inexpensive little wristband is a perfect sleep tracker, I know that I am a very sound sleeper. I try to read for a few minutes but never last more than about 10 to 15 minutes. I can go to sleep with the light on, with Vince listening to videos . . nothing bothers me when I’m going to sleep or once I go to sleep. I never hear anything. Rita comes to the door, wakes Vince up. He gets up and goes out with her, comes back to bed. I never hear anything. I’m happy to be a good sleeper. I’ve always been a good sleeper.
Tomorrow is a new day . . let’s home I can continue getting in at least 8,000 steps.

Where’d you get all those steps in? Just around the house and outside? That’s a LOT! Good for you!

Mostly outside working in the yard. I made a few laps around the inside fence but wasn’t going to venture too far off the beaten path. There’s a mama and 7 baby pigs running around back there somewhere and I do not want to run in to her, plus whatever critter has been digging around the house.

Hi Judy. Not judging cause I am the same….but what happens when we start off on a new eating & exercise regime, so excited about it… but then it all just quietly goes away. How can we stop the stopping?
Judy Laquidara says
The way I look at it is if you don’t at least start, you never stick with it. It’s like everything else . . you want to learn to knit, you start a project and never finish. At least you tried.
With dieting and exercise, I figure if I eat healthy for a week or a month or a year, it’s better than having not done it at all. Yes, I’d like for it to be a life change that sticks forever but I love to cook and we love to eat and soon it will be 100+ degrees here and I will not be out walk so . . I do what I can when I can and am happy. I never beat myself up over things I start and don’t finish.

Good luck on eating healthier. I can do that for about three days and you are such a cook! Good luck on all that. Remember if nobody sees you eating it…it doesn’t count. Those are a good number of steps too esp. with a bad knee. I try for 4,000…it’s kind of hard to walk with a sewing machine attached. Priorities..

I’ve been a fan of your blog ever since I bought your book, “60 Pieced Quilt Borders”, even though you don’t blog much about quilting any more. I stick with you because of your quirky sense of humor! You crack me up! Anyway, about the walking….I use a site called “Walking 4 Fun”. It syncs with my Fitbit and keeps track of my steps. You choose a trail to walk on virtually and after you get your steps in you can go to the site and see photos of where you actually walked. I have walked quite a few of the trails, including the Appalachian Trail which is over 2,000 miles. It keeps me motivated as I can see other people on the trail with me and try to keep up or pass them up.

I am proud of you for doing this! I need to start walking as well. I have become such a “chair potato:. LOL I sit in my chair and not the couch! LOL When they discovered I had sleep Apnea, I didn’t have any Apnea’s but I had 75 Hypopnias in 45 minutes! That means I was waking up every minute and not knowing it!

Questions about where you wear your step tracker. I have 2 that I wear simultaneously. One from my health provided United Healthcare which is a wrist band and my Fitbit which has been my original track motivator (worn on my waist or inside of pocket). I found that the Fitbit was much more accurate in calculating the steps I take. The wrist ban has me with 15k or 20k almost every day. I guess I’m moving my arms throughout the day more than I know.
