Today is National Spouse’s Day. Just heard that on TV and thought you should know. Speaking of spouses . . I made homemade pita bread for lunch. Yeast. Let sit 2 hours. Shape into balls. Let sit 30 minutes. Roll. Cook.
Vince . . after work . .
Vince: Are those pita breads hard to make?
Me: No . . are you asking me to make more?
Vince: Yes. Can you make them this evening?
Me. Yes, sure.
I went in the kitchen and stirred up a batch. Vince came in from doing some outside chores.
Vince: Did you make them?
Me: They’re stirred up but they have to sit 2 hours.
Vince: I thought you said they weren’t hard!
Me: They aren’t hard . . just take a while.
Vince: Do they have yeast?
Me: Yes!
Vince: Why didn’t you tell me they were hard to make?
Oh, Vince . . just because it has yeast does not mean they are hard to make but I think I failed to make that point.
By 6:30 (1-1/2 hours from now), we’ll have more fresh pita bread.

Oh funny. I am working on monkey bread…misjudged my supper time with the bread dough…so now I will plan breakfast!

I agree with Vince. Anything with yeast is hard to make! LOL. I think I got that opinion, because whenever my Mother made anything with yeast, she always worried aloud whether or not it would rise. (It pretty much always did). A long time ago I briefly worked for a restaurant that baked its bread and rolls from scratch. They, of course, had a giant proofer. I always said that if I could have one of those at my house I’d bake with yeast all the time. (My job for a while was as the backup person for making the rolls, so I got lots of practice using yeast.). Now I’m generally not home long enough at a stretch to wait for dough to rise.

I use to make pita bread all the time! Have not made it in (many) years. Maybe I should make some – your post made me hungry for it!
