9:30 p.m. and the old folks are going to bed. The “late night knitting report” isn’t so late tonight.
Since Vince didn’t come home for lunch today, I had plenty of knitting time. I did spend a lot of time running around doing all the frantic things that you have to do when they say “snow and ice” in our area. I dumped all the big watering cans for the chickens. They’re actually plastic and if the water freezes solid in them, and it will tonight, it will break some of the mechanisms. I put out shallow metal pots in sunny areas and I will carry water out several times a day and hope that since it’s in the sun, it won’t freeze too solid. I can turn those upside down and beat them and get the ice out. I put Cat’s water bowl closer to her heat light. I filled up extra small water containers for the chickens that we keep inside the coops and put them inside the greenhouse. I can grab them and take them to the coops if needed but the water inside the coops shouldn’t freeze since we’ll have heat on in them. Water hoses are off. Faucet protectors are on. I think I’ve done all I can do outside.
I washed sheets on both the queen size beds so if the power goes off, we’ll at least have clean sheets on one bed for a week and then we can move to the other bed. I didn’t put clean sheets on the double bed . . I don’t think there’s much hope of us sleeping together in a double bed! I’m ready and since I’m ready .. nothing will happen and that’s a good thing.
So . . I did have time to sit in my chair, with my quilt over my legs and knit for a while. I have one more cable repeat to do and then the upper ribbing, bind off and it will be done and that’s the second sock so . . UFO #1 will soon be finished.
I think the cable is too tight with a six row repeat so I’m going to make the pattern again but do it over maybe eight rows. The pattern is Socks on a Plane (free) and I think the heel on this sock is one of the best fitting heels and so easy and no holes . . sometimes I have holes that need closing when doing different types of heels).
Next time you see this project, it will be finished!

When you hand knit, do you have to put in a heel, or can you make them like the cotton tube socks? The heels always wear out first, and I like to switch the sides around on tube socks so it takes longer. =)
