I’ve been an Ott light fan for so many years. I know I have more than two of the floor lamps but right now, I can only find two. In MO, I had one in the living room by where I knit, I had one in the bedroom by a chair where I sometimes sat to read or knit, and there were several in the sewing room. Some of them are probably more than 20 years old. I think we may have broken one but Vince says he doesn’t think that was an Ott light that got broken. I can find two so . . either there’s at least one more somewhere or . . there isn’t!
I keep one by my knitting hair in the house and use it pretty much all day every day. The light started flickering last night just a little. This morning it was flickering just a little more. I told Vince . . we need to see about getting a new bulb for this light. His response — that’s not in the budget! 🙂
Within about five minutes of that discussion, the bulb went completely out. Darn . . that was fast! I had another full spectrum light by where I spin so I brought it over to my chair but it isn’t the tube type light . . kind of a round light and it was either in Vince’s eyes or it didn’t hang over my chair far enough to shine at the right angle on my knitting.
I retrieved the Ott floor lamp from the sewing room. Vince ordered a new bulb but I’m going to go search and see if I can find another light. It could be in a sewing room closet or, it could be in boxes not yet unpacked. There’s a moving tag on this light, which makes me think they were never packed in boxes but because one wasn’t in a box doesn’t mean another one wasn’t packed in a box.
I haven’t kept up with new technology. I don’t even know what’s out there these days. I doubt I need an Ott light for the knitting I do. But I do like the shape of those tube lights. The desk lamps would work too but my desk is where my notebook sits so I know a lamp would end up getting knocked off the table.
I wish the stuff I have that I like would just last forever!

I have two of these lights. They are great for hand sewing and put out a lot of light. I think LED seems to be the new ay to go. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VJ4SHZG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Love my Ott lights! I do scrapbooking and use it for colors on papers and embellishments. Also is great for putting together small bits for pages.

Maybe one day, when you retire to your forever home, you will unpack everything. Just imagine the possibilities! What are in all those boxes?!!

I love my Ott lights! I only have two – one on my sewing machine and one in the bedroom as it gets dim in there when knitting. Or maybe it’s just my eyes that get a bit dim!

I use Ott lights too but recently Bonnie Hunter showed lamps from The Daylight Company that seemed pretty remarkable. Maybe you would like to look at her blog? She posted pictures and a video that really demonstrated the lamps lighting. Put “The Daylight Company” into the search box on her blog and it will take you right to that page. She actually bought the lamps a few years ago I think so there are other posts about them also. Good luck.

Last year I bought an Ott Light at Loew’s. It is a floor model and I have it next to my chair where I both knit/crochet and read. I love it and the price was right – I think it was on sale, but I’m not sure.

I have two Ott portable lights that I use all the time. One is by my sewing machine, the other I leave packed in my retreat machine case. I also bought a Daylightcompany light at Paducah last year and I really like the light it gives off. It has 4 levels of brightness on 2 different tubes. You can use only 1 at a time or both together for really bright light . They stay cool too.

I like the Ott lights and have a floor lamp standing over my shoulder where I sew everything. I read by a little one on the bedstead at night. I would have to give up a lot of things if I didn’t have these to see by! I don’t know everything else on the market, either, but I do know I don’t want LED lights, and I don’t want anything else I’ve seen. This works, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. LOL

Isn’t that the way it always goes? I think it is because we use them more and therefore they go out faster than we want them to! Vince needs to know that a new bulb is cheaper than a new light! LOL

I tried to turn on my Ott light just a couple days ago and got no.thing. out of it; not even a flicker (it’s been unused for a long time.) I found myself hoping that it’s just the bulb.
I saw a couple references to Daylight Company. I’ll have to look for them at Road to California (later this month!)

JoAnn sells OttLite replacement bulbs. Some styles are only available at JoAnn.com. But you should be able to use a coupon in any case. Amazon also has them at prices lower than OttLite’s list. As far as I’m concerned, at my age, with my vision, they are essential! The OttLite company has very good customer service; I’ve been able to buy replacement parts from them for a couple of our lamps.
