Not long before lunch today I started the second sock of the first pair of Rye socks. This is probably the first time I’ve ever made worsted weight socks.
Not only are they amazingly quick to make but they fit quite well and are not overly thick, as I was expecting them to be.
These could be my new favorite socks.
I felt like if I could get the leg done today, I could finish them tomorrow but it was about 7 p.m. when I got the leg done, then it took no time to do the heel so I just kept on knitting and shortly after 11 p.m., the second sock was finished.
Tomorrow I’m going to start a pair for Vince. To get the maximum number of stars for this project (ESK Yarnathon), I need to use at least 800 yards for all the socks in the project. These took about 220 yards. The larger size calls for 350 yards but I’m going to make them 4 stitches bigger and make the leg longer so I’m hopin to use two full skeins of yarn which will be about 450 yards. That will be about 670 yards total and then I’m going to make a pair for Addie which which should use about 150 yards and that will get me over the 800 yard mark. The child’s size large calls for 200 yards but I’m betting they only take 150 yards . . unless I make them longer. In any event, I should easily use 800 yards in three pairs.
I’m going to do Vince’s two at a time so I could have both of them done by Sunday . . or Monday or . . Tuesday! 🙂

Pretty socks! Love the color! Would these be good for a beginner, as in *I’ve never held knitting needles before* type of beginner? 😀 Or should I aim a bit lower? lol

These socks are actually part of a learn to knit series. There are eight projects in the series each gradually introducing new skills. There are videos to teach you that you can watch if you are beginner. The website is called Tin can knits.

I’ve been on a worsted weight kick for a while. I’m able to make warm socks for the kids quickly. I usually make 2 pairs at a time on 2 cabled needles.

I started this pattern on Friday & I’m almost done with the heel on the first one–definitely quick knitting for me as I’m usually very slow. They are killing my hands though, I haven’t knit in a while. The pattern is easy & they’ll be comfy around-the-house socks (my feet haven’t been warm in about a month, lol). Thanks for the link to them!
