I keep telling myself . . we play the hand we’re dealt. I know she’s a pet and there are parents who go through a whole lot worse with their children and my heart breaks for them but my heart also breaks for Rita. Every minute of every day I wish she wasn’t blind. I wish her eyes didn’t bother her. I wish she hadn’t started her life in an unhappy home. I wish she hadn’t lived in the woods for at least a week before Vince caught her and convinced her we were nice people. Yet, I am so thankful that she found us and that we are able to do what needs to be done to make her comfortable. A friend just went through losing a beloved pet due to complications from glaucoma. She was an older dog and wasn’t real cooperative when they tried to put the drops in her eyes. We’re lucky .. it could be worse.
This is Rita when I’m coming to put drops in her eyes. I have to put drops in her eyes 5 times a day. One drop in each eye three times a day, another drop in each eye twice a day. She is so perceptive. Even though she cannot see, she knows exactly when I’m coming with drops and she buries her head under her blanket. She doesn’t fight me, she doesn’t growl or try to bite or try to get away but I don’t think she enjoys it. Who would?
We’re lucky to have her and lucky she has a good attitude.

Rita thinks if you can’t see her eyes you cannot use the medicine. How adorable, she is a truly wonderful little dog who knows how much she is loved. How wonderful for all..

I have to use eyedrops a LOT because my eyes hurt all the time. They’ve never been able to figure out why but it’s miserable. Putting drops in my eyes is easy breezy but it was SO HARD with the DH. He’d ask me to put drops in but trying to get them in was next to impossible! I know he couldn’t help it but I had to use one hand with two fingers to keep his eye pried open and hope I could get the drop in before he squeezed his eye to avoid the drop. Poor critters don’t understand..I’ve tried giving my cat oral meds but finally gave up. Impossible!

She is one smart cookie. Maybe she can smell the scent of the drops or the way you walk in to do the task (are you tippy toeing? lol

Im SO sorry for poor little Rita, but she’s very lucky to have found a loving family to care for her. Imagine her fate without you… sweet baby. <3
